    Scrapbooking

My daughter would like to get into this and suggested that it would be a nice Christmas present for her.  What do you need to get started, what are the best websites to order from, and maybe what not to waste your money on?  Is there a good starter kit that might be recommended?

I have zero interest in that...I can't even keep old pictures in albums anymore...lol!  But her daughter is 6 mos, and I can see why she would like to join her friends in this.  Thanks for any help!

I was really into it a few years back. A few friends would get together one Friday evening each month at a reps house and put our photo pages together and eat pizza or chili. It was a lot of fun and the people who had children really had a lot to work with. This is the company that sponsored the get togethers - http://www.creativememories.com/

You can buy most of the stuff at Michaels now and there are quite a few specialty stores that sell nothing but scrapbooking products. I spent a small fortune getting started and sadly, it's now buried deep in a closet, but it was fun.

I'd suggest starting her off with a basic scrapbook, maybe some stickers, mounting tape, zigzag scissors, etc. You could really have fun (and spend a lot of $$) on this stuff.

I was going to say that all my stuff is also from Creative Memories. And, I got a few albums that are for beginners.

I've picked up some really cute stuff for making gifts at Walmart for far less than any of the craft/specialty stores were charging.  That might be an inexpensive way to start.

Scrapbooking is fun! I just don't have the time anymore. You could just go to a craft store like Michael's and pick out an assortment of cute baby-themed papers and embellishments (little stickers, cut-outs, ribbons, etc.) I think some of the basic "equipment" would be a cutting pad, exacto knife and metal ruler, some scissors that cut different lines, one of those brad-setter things, a couple of different ink pads, markers. I'm sure a salesperson would be happy to help.

You can also check on ebay.  I just sold all of my scrapbooking stuff on ebay.  It was easily $300 worth of stuff for about $80.  Jan laid out pretty well the supplies she will need.

I used to scrapbook, but now do online photobooks instead...faster and cheaper than buying all the stuff.

Consider digital scrapbooking. It is much cheaper in the long run. And it would have the added bonus of teaching her some really great computer skills using photoshop or corel. AND there's no cleanup(a big plus in my book). There are some really great online places where you can buy digital papers, embellishments(ribbons, stitching, alphas, etc). And there are a lot of freebies too. My favorite places are:

www.sweetshoppe.com (though they're going through a total upgrade and you can't access them until next week sometime, I think)

Plus there are some really great forums to get help too.

Here are a few of my layouts to show you what can be done:

Here is a mini album where I printed out the layouts and pasted them onto the pages in the album.

I've also had my layouts printed up and bound by shutterfly and they came out great. I'm giving a few to our family for christmas.

Those are so nice!  I really need to get back into my scrapbooking.  I used to do it, but ironically enough, since I've got the girls, I just haven't had the time.

I really want this. I think there's a clip on there of what the machine can do.  I want it for doing more than scrapbooking though.  The vinyl lettering and designs would be really nice for signs and whatnot at work, and you can cut fabric with it too to make iron on things.  You can make wrapping paper, and cards and.....lol I have really got to stop watching infomercials!
