Right dog, wrong time...*sigh*

    Right dog, wrong time...*sigh*

We're looking for a second dog, but we don't want to add one until we move to NY this spring...*sigh*
And while I would like a younger, more energetic dog, this girl is really pulling at my heart strings...

    Yellow Labrador Retriever Picture

Rosie 2 - (intake date: 10/30/08). My name is Rosie, but the people here at the Shelter had to put a "2" after my name, because there is another doggie named Rosie here. I am a 7-year old, spayed, Yellow Lab. My owner had to move and could not take me along, so here I am. I am very friendly, and get along with other dogs and cats. I am a little over weight now, but am working to loose a few pounds. If you are interested in adopting me, contact The Humane Society Of Yates County @ (315) 536-6094.

I know we could give her a good forever home, and I think her and Apollo would look good together Smile

Why cant you get her now?

    • Gold Top Dog

No house (we live in a condo), no yard, Jeremys not on board until we move....Plus, she's about 7 hours (one way) away from us right now. Just bad timing, you know?

Your heart, broken as it will be, is in the right place. Is there a way to get her into foster care until you have moved? Too bad there's not a "lay away" deal where you could give money to keep her there and secure until you could adopt. However, Dallas SPCA for example, will not hold a pet for anyone. Some people (not you) back out after a time. Otherwise, they can adopt to someone sooner who is ready.

That's why I don't spend a lot of time on petfinder or at the local shelter. Most times, it's heartbreaking for me to see them there and know that I can't save them all. But, guaranteed, my next dog will be from the shelter. Though sometimes, I can just walk out the door and find a pet, like Jade.

It's hard. There are so many wonderful dogs that need a home.It is similar for us.We have a home the time and money but I keep thinking Jewel deserves to have my focus in her twilight years. My husband and son keep schleping me to shelters to see aussies and terriers but it's those huge labs that draw me in with there patient soulful looks that say "deliver me from this 4x6 pen because all those little fluffy ones come and go but I'm still here."There is a chocolate named Coco,a black named Barton and a yellow named mr B, but how would Jewel feel about a dog that outweighs her? It's best to wait. She doesn't need the stress.......

Thanks, Ron. I don't think they can hold a pet (I don't blame them either). On their website it says they will not euth' because of space, so thats a relief!

She would look great next to Apollo... but in the right time you will get the right dog.

For me go to petfinder is just torture, so I don't go...

    It really is!

Jeremy told me to stay away from it....but I couldn't resist! Yah, no will power here, lol.

And when you get the chance, you will adopt. Sometimes, we can save the world one step at a time.

Allow me to confuse people and quote my one favorite bible verse.

"When you have done so unto the least of these, you have done so unto Me."

When we rescue the forgotten, abandoned, surrendered, we enoble ourselves. Though I am on the highway to Hades, I can hope to upgrade to the Rainbow Bridge.

Otherwise, the tagline in my sig pretty much sums it up.

Doubtful Dude...that you are on the highway to Hades.  You have a seat being saved upstairs.

I can't go to Petfinder unless I'm a serious looker.  There are WAY too many dogs that need help.   Wait until the time is right.

In another time and another place, I can explain my statement but not here. It's considered melodramatic.

What I like about this forum is the compassion we have. Which is what the bible verse kind of states for me. When we help others, we help ourselves.

She's cute.  And, after the yellow you will need a chocolate so you have the complete collection!

I also don't go to local shelter anymore.  If I were single (with no husband and kid), I think I would pack up and go to Utah and work at the animal sanctuary (I can't remember the name... I think it is called Best Friends...It is the one that is now featured on National Geographic).  If I were single, I would have adopted dogs.  I am sorry but I prefer the company of animals, especially dogs.

Our 2 year old lab is a wonderful lab.  He was not a shelter dog.  My husband did not want a shelter dog for fear of problems.  I think he is a little narrow minded.  Since I can't change him, I hope to teach my daughter to be a compassionate human being when it comes to animals.   My daughter is now 15 months old.  I have taught her to be gentle with our lab, Niko.  She has learn to gently touch our lab and to give him hugs instead of acting like most toddlers pulling the dog's ears or roughtly patting him.

Awwww, she's sweet.  I know it's been said (here by some) that dogs pick their owners.   When the time is right I know you'll find just the right new family member who was meant to be part of your family.   No more Petfinder!  I'm completely guilty of this though to, I just can't help myself!

The older ones really get to me.
