    Anyone have Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Last year I got a rash on my face wasn't sure what it was from thought it was something I ate the rash went away but came back a few months later well now for a year the rash has come and gone finally I go to a dermatologist who looked at my face touched one of the spots of the rash and said it was Seborrheic Dermatitis, tells me to get johnson & johnson baby shampoo and wash my face with that, also gave me a prescription of Hydrocortisone 2.5%. I am a little skeptical of the baby shampoo helping me I can tell you that I wasn't in the back with him for more then 5 mins he basically looked at my face touched a spot told me what it was wrote a prescription told the nurse something and left.

I am just wondering if someone else has this or perioral or contact dermatitis if so does anything ur using help, I am looking to natural home remedies

I had undiagnosed dermatitis for years until finally they have now "named" it as psoriasis (and psioriatic dermatitis which is dermatitis paired with arthritis).  Mine's all auto-immune which is nasty so just steroids don't help mine until you get into the big huge nasty steroids that completely suppress the immune system.

Aloe can help take the burn and itch down and dry it up.  Harvest the goo right out of the aloe leaves.

Even chamomile tea patted on the area can reduce the burn and inflammation.

I use homeopathics a lot -- the psoriasis I have itches infernally -- it is at times completely mind-numbing how badly it itches and NOTHING touches it.

Eventually the steroids make your skin 'thin' and just don't work well.  Skin problems are h$ll.

Crazy, crazy, I was just talking to my sister on the phone about my SD and how pleased I am with my new skin care regimen.  My SD flares on my face and scalp, and it's really annoying but completely manageable.

A few suggestions...use hydrocortisone for spot treatment only.  I started out applying the hydrocortisone to my whole face, and did this every day.  After prolonged use, my face got used to the hydrocortisone, and every time I tried to stop using it, my face sort of...broke down.  So be sure to use it as needed, but don't let your skin get too dependent on it.

If you develop it on your scalp, I've found that Nizoral in particular works well to control it (you can find it at most supermarkets), but it's often expensive, and I've been known to substitute in Head & Shoulders Intensive Care shampoo (but alternate uses with a reg. shampoo).  If you do use any sort of scalp control shampoo, make sure to follow up with a strong conditioner so you don't fry out your hair.

More face talk...I've actually recently found that my SD is completely managed without cortisone through the Clinique skin care regimen.  For some reason, my face LOVES this regimen, and I've never seen my skin look better.  However, in the past I used St. Ives facial scrubs a few times a week (combined with hydrocortisone spot treatment), and the SD was under control.  In general, I've found that my SD responds well to ritual sloughing of the facial skin, followed by a SUPER lightweight moisturizer.

My biggest piece of advice would be to NOT touch or irritate your skin when it flares up.  This only makes it far worse, and the flare ups can last longer and get more aggressive.  Other suggestions would be to make sure not to use heavy lotions on your face, as this seems to exacerbate my own SD, as well as my cousin's.  Also, find out what your trigger is.  My SD flareups are definitely related to stress, and I try to manage that in order to keep the SD at a minimum.

While it sounds like your doctor could have been a little nicer during the visit, there wasn't a whole lot more that he could do.  SD is one of those skin conditions that is best managed by finding a skin care regiment that your face responds to (and sticking with it), keeping hydrocortisone around, and managing the trigger.

I'm sorry I don't have any terrific natural remedies, but I would bet that there are ways to steep calming herbs to apply on your face to help maintain.  Perhaps Callie will read this, she usually knows the best ways to incorporate natural ingredients into medical care.

But you're not alone, and rest assured that SD can be fairly easily managed.  Best wishes on finding a regimen that works for you!

EDIT: Lol, Callie posted while I was typing my reply!

Thanks I hate it, for the past year it has come and gone but now it's sticking around for awhile I thought it was the butter I was using and so I stopped using that kind and switched to something else but don't really like it, and when I switched it seemed to go away a little but I also didn't really eat butter after the switch, when I got it last year it was just underneath my bottom lip had two red marks but now it's on my forehead, nose cheeks around my eyes and still my chin I guess you can say my T-zone it looks like I have a sunburn which isn't so bad since I live in Florida lol but I really hate it it's driving me crazy my sister is like it's not that bad I tell her right because I notice it and she seems not to.

I have been searching the internet and read it could be from stress and the paper the doctor gave me said Sevorrhea is often provoked by emotional stress, excess perspiration, sun exposure, and in some instances with increased intake of fatty goods such as butter, cream, bacon and chocolate ( I don't eat meat so bacon is out lol)

I thought it could be my glasses since now that it's around my eyes I have metal frames I can't stop wearing my glasses because if I did I couldn't see lol, also thought maybe it was my shampoo, I don't wear makeup only lipstick, I can't use face cleaning products because I do have sensitive skin even tho I have tried tons of things just makes it worse.

But I swear it's like whenever I have to go somewhere special it comes back just think I'm jinxed lol I don't really have pimps I just can't figure out what is causing it. Hopefully I can get a handle on this I really hate it and embarrassed of it as well Sad

For a few years now there have been changes, Like I can't wear latex gloves and even none latex gloves whenever I am near rubber or can smell rubber my face itches I turn red my hand and arms swell up, In September  I walked from my house to the mall which is 3 miles if you drive by time I got to the mall parking lot my arms and hands were swollen I told my family doctor he just said hmmm I don't know why my arms and hands swell up like that would love to know why guess I'm just weird lol

    Thanks for the help
