    oooooooooowwwwwwwweeeeeeee!

OW!  I just need to vent.  I have an outbreak of mouth ulcers (yes, it sounds gross, NO they are not contagioues, NOT herpes/cold sore) and OMG they hurt so bad!  I'm getting like feverish hot flashes and am literally drooling.  They are on both sides of my mouth, plus when I get them my glands under my chin swell up hard and that hurts too.  I'm not looking forward to the next 10 days or so (about how long it takes for the pain to go away)....

I saw you mention this the other day.  Been there, have the painful t-shirt.  I know how you feel, can't talk, can't eat, drool.  I have had them since I was a child.  Mine seem to be stress related.  I have tried all sorts of prescription and over the counter stuff and nothing really helps.  The only thing I do now is get some Cholareseptic (sp) spray, it's in a bottle and is green.  Tastes yucky, but it does numb them for a few minutes.  I'm sorry you have them and hope they get better soon.

might rinsing with peroxide help a bit? when I have a canker sore it always helps shorten the course...not sure if these are the same deal tho.

DH used to get outbreaks and around here they have something like Duke's Miracle Mouthwash - you need a prescription from a dentist but it kills the pain and heals them in record time.  I also have been making him take acidophilus and since he has been taking that he has not had any more.  He was getting them fairly regularly.

I'll try and find some info on the mouthwash

    Here;s some info link

     aaaaaaahhhhhh! lol

I've tried lots of things, nothing seems to really help.  Anything I apply topically sends them into overdrive, they literally ooze blood if anything gets on or near the sore.  I used to have a prescription b/c I got them so bad when I was young but it expired and I don't even have the same Dr. anymore.  I wonder if they can prescribe something if I call in or do they have to see me?

They'll probably want you to go in.  If you have a regular Dentist, he/she might send you something over the phone.  Mine will more so than the Dr's office.   Couldn't hurt to call, oh wait, yes it will hurt to call. So not funny.

Really? That sounds horrible. I get one every now and then but it's related to a lower incisor that irritates the lower inside of my lips. Just that one little sore is enough to put me in a foul mood, so I can't imagine what you're feeling. I was going to suggest the Chloraseptic spray also, but it sounds like you've tried that. When I worked for a children's dentist, we used to suggest rinsing their mouth with Karo syrup just to coat it and ease the pain. Honestly though, as bad as yours sounds, I'd be at my dentist or Dr's office getting something stronger.

Oh damn!  I called the dentist (yes it hurt).  The receptionist said she would call me back.  When she called back she said he wants to know what I was prescribed before.  I have no idea that waslik 8 years ago.  So I call my old pediatrician, but they said my record is on disk and they won't even know until tomorrow!  The dentist wants me to call back with the drug and the dosage so he can call it in.  Know of any drugs/dosages?  They will take my word for it...

I was really hoping he would just burn it off. Or that I can bribe him for some shots of lidocaine...

    • Gold Top Dog

They could prescribe you liquid lidocaine. You know the stuff they put in your mouth prior to the injection? That's what I'd ask for. I believe it's 2% oral lidocaine.

Oh I'm feeling your pain. I get them when I'm super stressed and when I'm about to get sick and my immune system is fragile.

I think I found it, Aphthasol, has to be it.  If not oh well I'll try it.  Unless I can convince him to use silver nitrate.  My child dentist did that and OMG that kills but then it's over.

Check this out - apparently this is a really new drug that the FDA just approved. I'd like to have some this on hand myself:

Debacterol Canker Sore Pain Relief Debacterol® stops canker sore pain permanently in 5 to 10 seconds flat with just one application As many as 20% of all adults suffer periodically from canker sores or oral ulcers. Now you can help your patients alleviate ulcer pain with a one-time treatment that only takes a few seconds. Debacterol® Canker Sore Pain Relief is a liquid agent that chemically cauterizes all ulcerated oral mucosal lesions. Following a brief topical application, it forms a protective barrier that mechanically protects the lesion from painful contact with environmental irritants until it can heal naturally. To use, simply dry the lesion with the cotton swab included, apply Debacterol with the handy pre-filled unit-dose applicator, and have the patient rinse. The pain is gone in seconds and the lesion typically heals in three to five days. Reimbursable under most insurance plans. 12 swab kits per box.

If you can withstand 20 - 30 seconds of sheer stabbing burning pain, put salt directly on them.  It will hurt like hell, but then will feel better, they might bleed a bit too.  I get awful canker sores, and that's what usually works for me

I'll ask about this next time.  I have an OTC product that works similarly (covers the sore and protects it), but is supposed to numb them and doesn't actually cauterize them.   The problem with it is that it wears off over time, leaving the sore even more buring and ANGRY that you've dumped chemicals onto it, so then it gets bigger, bloodier, and my glands swell more to react.
