    politics .....sigh

Anyone else get bummed by all of the pushy  threads everywhere about poilitcs??   I understand being excited, and I even understand feeling passionate about what will become a history making election. but for the life of me I can't wrap my head around the concept that friends feel the overwhelming need to push poilitcal views or the non related web sites being deluged with not simply excited views but down right snarky and nasty posts.  The Grandparents Forums I belong to even ends up with snide comments on the potty training thread. The Home decorating  and entertaining thread had a great idea for an election day party , it was meant to be light hearted and fun but quickly became mean minded and pushy.  Having a menu suggested with a sense of humor about finger foods and "Pork" dishes was funny but having people taking sides and making moronic democrat / republican attacks took all of the fun right out of it.

Going to a Graduation site in hopes of looking up friends I found myself relieved that they have banned all political statements. Sharing the news that you are actively working for a party is fine, but being a jerk about the other parties just not cool.

I am excited the election is only 3 days away. I and my family will happily vote our hearts and minds. And we pray others do the same. I do not care if we are voting against each other, I simply want to see the graciousness for which our country is famous show.  Vote.... don't turn others off because you have forgotten that politics like religion or even the type of dog yo love is personal.  Sigh...manners.   I wish we could get back to the time when having manners was expected not unusual.  It was part of the things that made our country great. Any moron can be rude, pushy or annoying.

YES!!!!  I am so sick of political threads.

I am amazed at how many people, who you know are not trolls, decide to start political threads just to get a reaction from someone else.  It is very frustrating.  I can't wait for it all to be over.

Thank heavens we were allowed to vote early in Florida.  I voted last weekend and it is DONE.  OVER ... FINISHED.

I'm sick of election year politics by January 2.

It'll be over soon and we'll be back to sniping over alpha rolls and puppy mills and correction based training.  Stick out tongue

I'm hiding from the onslaught of political ads by watching the travel channel, which is causing it's own set of problems (I MUST SEE GRAND CANYON NOW!!!).

We had early voting here too but I'm afraid about absentee ballots not being counted until later on and I want my vote to count ON TUESDAY!  There's also been confusion and controversy about them here in VA so I want to make sure my vote counts!

The thing that amazes me is the number of apparently still undecided people there are ... and we're literally hours away from the polls opening.  I sincerely hope I never wind up having dinner in a restaurant with any of these people lest I grow old and die right there at the table.

*shrug* maybe a lot of people simply can't stomach the idea of either one of them and are therefore undecided. That's the point I've gotten to. I'm not voting in the Presidential this year because I don't feel morally comfortable voting for either of them. The lies, the mud-slinging....I want it to be over and done with. As far as I'm concerned, 99.9% of big-name politicians don't give a cr*p about me, so I don't give a cr*p about them - they can't be trusted and they are repugnant in character (just look at some of the snide, dishonest ads). My local elections are far more important to me. Hurrah Tom Perriello (even though I'm not in the VA 5th district, boo)!

I'm right there with ya!!  Undecided as well, can't wrap my arms around either.  I will vote, but I just might do Inny Miny Miney Moo .

My DH is not voting this year for the first time in his life.  No matter what I say, he say's - nope not this year!  Hates both choices sincerely and can't even bring himself to find one better than the other.Sad

I have a feeling its not going to go away as easily as in the past.

I'm already seeing friendships being strained by it. How is pushing your politics down others throats any different then pushing your religion?

It isn't.  It's sad.  We literally have stopped being friends with a couple we used to hang out with because of this.  I refuse to discuss politics with them because we believe totally different things.  The wife wouldn't let up and wanted to discuss...i.e. preach.  She kept pushing and pushing and started name calling until finally I just asked them to leave.  I couldn't take it.  All she was doing was baiting DH and I...it was disgusting and beyond frustrating.  I hate politics.  Maybe I am completely closed minded, but I don't see how jamming your viewpoint down someone's throat is going to make them see things from your prespective.  If anything it is going to push them away farther because of how you are presenting it.

    I can't wait until Wednesday!!!

I love discussing politics, but I certainly respect everyone's right to hold differing opinions.  Isn't that one thing our political process is about?

Holding grudges against (or disrespecting in any way) someone who disagrees with your poltiical opinions makes about as much sense to me as espousing the idea that anyone who disagrees with an administration's policies or decisions is unpatriotic.  Speaking out about your beliefs about the direction this country should go is a very patriotic thing, IMO.  But there's no reason it can't be done with respect.

People need to get a grip.

I have no problem discussing politics with people that are civil.  However, when someone starts the conversation with, "whoever is voting for XXX is a complete moron and should be shot since they are too stupid" does not deserve to have a conversation with me.  Period.  They don't want to discuss, they want to preach.

I was taught and in return taught my children you don't discuss religion, politics or sex in mixed company. Yes there are exceptions, but is it worth it to strain a friendship? Some people say ... well you don't want them as your friend if they feel THAT way. Oh how boring life would be if everyone you knew thought the same way about everything. Stepford wives anyone?

I do see the forums as different though. In the forums you're not forced to listen to anothers point of view, nor are you forced to present and/or defend yours.

I am dreading Wednesday because of the gloating I know will be going on. If I could skip work, I really would. I absolutely hate this election, esp with our California propositions this year.

I got a call last night from someone, didn't say which party, reminding me to vote. Um, gee, ya think?! I get at least four phone calls/day, 4-6 junk mails/day, I see a bazillion commercials, signs in people's yards, etc. I don't think I'm going to forget!
