    Submissive Peeing

My dog Cuddles submissive pees a lot. I ABSOLUTELY HATE it. Like of you go over to her to put on a leash inside she'll pee. Or if you go pet her and make a fuss over her she'll usually pee. HELP PLEASE!

Well, you need better timing. When the dog is super excited, like when you're getting the leash to go out for a walk, don't touch the dog or even make eye contact with it until it's calmed down. Then put the leash on. Same with the petting. Don't pet it until it's calm. The less chances for it to submissive pee, the less likely it will happen. Dog that pee when excited can't help it, but, you can prevent it from happening. Make sense?

My parents cocker spaniel does this when new people come over. So, they tell everyone don't look at him, don't touch him- just ignore him. When he's calmed down then you can pet him.

Layla used to do this a LOT. Whenever someone came over or when I would come home, when we got ready to go for a walk, when we get to the groomer's (she still does this sometimes), but she's gotten a lot better as she's gotten older. (She's 2.5 now). I agree with the not making eye contact and ignoring until calm. Layla is still really submissive around other dogs and other people, even after she gets to know them pretty well. I swear, sometimes I wonder if people think I beat her with the way she cowers and throws herself on her back! I don't know what causes this, but I think she may have been the runt of her litter and got her little butt kicked by the other dogs....poor girl!

I found that keeping paper towel and cleaning spray by the front door was essential for almost a year until she stopped doing it. Good luck!!
