UPDATE - I'm as Bad as the Rest of You...

Oye.  I sent these people an email...http://www.dogsindanger.com/dog.jsp?did=1225293578260.  I also sent an email to my fave rescue contact to see if he can be rehomed if I get him up here and he doesn't fit.  I'm not actively looking, but sort of looking, for a therapy dog to take over when Sioux and Maska retire, so I was hoping for a young dog that could still play with Sequoyah, and be ok with kids, men, uniforms and umbrellas, if you know what I mean.  Unfortunately, I have no one to help me rehab a dog that needs remedial housetraining or anything like that, and he would have to be ok with Maska, who isn't always fond of other males, and with Fergie, who is so old.  I might need a transport, 'cuz I don't have much time off left.  He's 750 miles away.  The shelter only wants $70 for him.  Is there anyone who could save him, or pull him, if I can't?  PM me if you might be able to help out.

Awww, he looks so sweet! You're in MA, right? If you need help going through CT, let me know, and I might be able to help. (No guarantees because my work schedule right now is fairly intense, but it might lighten up, who knows!)

You know that's probably a BC, right?  Wink

Carteret is an awfully long haul from here, and I'm having that hyst in a week.  But, if someone can pull and get him HERE, then we can give him some space until we can do the next leg north (say, to Richmond or somewhere on 81 - actually, the latter would be better because then I could in the same drive pick up my baby dog who's going to be ready to go by then - in theory anyway.  :)

Accomodations wouldn't be deluxe - while I'm recuperating it would have to be kenneling rather than being in the house, but at least there would be lots of time in our large fenced areas to play with other dogs.

Just let me know - email is better because I never know when I'm going to be here at this point but I do check e-mail regularly.

That might work pretty well for you because I'd have him long enough to tease out any "issues" that you'd be facing, and if he's got any minor dog-on-dog issues Zhi is the ultimate rehab dog for that.  She is really the miracle worker.

You guys rock. That's too far away for me to do anything. Nor can I take away from work to boogie up the eastern seaboard, as much fun as that would be (coffee, Diet Coke, and 1.2 english tons of lead in my right foot.) Especially with a dog in the car, you have to stop once in a while so he can pee. I wish I could help. I average about a mile a minute with traffic and stops, over-all. But I am going to look here to see how it's going and think really good thoughts.

If you need help with PA let me know.  If someone is coming up 81 that would be perfect.  He's beautiful.

Since I am clear across the country, I will send positive vibes tha tit will all work out.  good luck and here's hoping it goes together without a hitch!

You guys are awesome.  I haven't heard from the shelter yet, but I do have a friend up here in rescue who says she might be able to find him a good home if he doesn't work out with my guys.  From the description, it looks like he's good with other dogs.

Becca, do I care if he's an Aussie, a BC or even a mix?  Remember, my heart dog of a lifetime was a BC mix.  And we don't even know what Sioux's other half is:-))  The beanhead won't care what he is, as long as he doesn't want her f-r-i-s-b-e-e.

I'll let you know what happens.

And let me point out this is not the first time you directly saved a dog and people lined up to do transport. Sheba, of course, from Ponca City, OK. Where did you get that gi-normous halo? Is that standard issue for doggy angels?

I'm really hoping this works out.

*Snerk*  A full-on BC might be problematic in that respect.  LOL!  But, I had two Frisbee nuts for a long time and they simply learned to lie down and wait their turns.  A fun training challenge.

I just didn't want you to be surprised!  If I miss something in this thread due to a bad day, PUH-lease someone e-mail me.

I can also help through Pennsylvania if needed!! :)

I heard from the shelter director.  Cyrus was pulled by a rescue and has been adopted into a family already!!!!   But, if I ever need to pull something together for another dog, I know where to come.  The halo's are on all of YOU!!!!

Becca, I already have a hound that doesn't want anyone to have HIS rope tug.  Even Sequoyah gives up when he decides that he wants to play with it.  And, I suspect that since she only cares about HER fris, she would have been happy to have another dog play with the one that smells like his icky spit.

HAVE A GREAT LIFE, CYRUS !!!!!!!!!!!

I am happy for Cyrus, evidence here that you can save them all.  There is a lot of great offers to help get the dog to a new location and those are a very unselfish acts.  But as a rescuer who does bring in dogs from far away locations there is also a lot of effort in stringing the offers of help together and that is not mentioning the effort to have backups for backups.

From the original post, I think this rescue would be disqualified by the rescue networks because of all the reasons sighted why this dog would be rehomed, especially not wiling to put in the time for remedial training like housebreaking.  The rescue would be more successful if a rescue organization would be the new guardian, and then again some of the really good transport coordinators do not believe in moving a dog from one shelter situation to another situation.  They will tell you right out that the dog would be better off PTS.  When first confronted with this, I had to a lot of convincing of why the dog would be better off with me.

One other thing, I would call the shelter first before trying to put together a rescue and gets some observation facts.  The software that runs Dogs in Danger requires an entry for a euth date.  I have encountered dogs on that website that are not really in danger of PTS and it really is not fair to those dogs that have a euth date.  The organization mentioned in the OP is a rescue organization and not a goverment unit and also advertise on Petfinders.  I could not tell from their website whether they are a no-killer shelter.

I do like that a private effort was in the making for rescue a dog.
