Off colored Boston Terriers...

For those who don't know, there are people breeding Boston Terriers in colors that are not allowed by the breed standard and are selling them for insane amounts of money. While few are doing so responsibly, the majority aren't so I created a guide about off colored Boston Terriers. You can check it out on [linkhttp://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=124633686&blogID=279972664&MyToken=fe9b5458-cbb0-4c41-94e7-f11c74dd3e29]My Space[/link] or on [linkhttp://groups.msn.com/SekcsZoo/abostonofadifferentcolor.msnw]MSN[/link]. Thank you for the link and the page. I hope it gets a gazillion hits so that when someone hears about a "rare" Boston and searches the internet to find one, they find YOUR page first.

    Good job.

I own three blue boston terriers and one fawn and two show bostons terrier. I have placed one show boston  now and about to place the last one. I have had nothing but health  problems from my top champion bred bostons, not just any champion but out of the #1 boston in USA ect and #2 in canada to have had in these show lines, aggression, food allergies and fur loss, cherry eye, excess gas etc. To find out that this show line had aggression. That they need attitude and energy to show off in the ring and do well. A lazy calm boston would not place well. To talk to other show breeders to hear cherry eye is normal and to just fix it not worry about it. And aggression in show lines is normal you need to socialize your puppy. I have NEVER heard this from a colored boston terrier breeder! I hear that they are easy going wonderful with our children, great with our cat and easy going. No allergies no breathing problems etc. When I looked into buying my bostons I only heard from show breeders titles and how wonderful this line was as it won this and that. I never once heard how great they were with children etc.

My blue colored bostons that are AKC registered and were accepted by AKC as purebred have had no health problems, they are much calmer and not so high strung, they don't run away they listen much better than my show line and have had zero health problems. They also came from parents that were able to naturally birth them unlike my show lines that have been so inbred and altered they can no longer birth naturally. My show dog had to have her nose operated on as it was so extreme she could not breath, my colored dogs breath well. My show line has had skin problems in the folds around there eyes, my colored dogs have had no skin problems at all.

I thought with all the fear based write ups out there I was better to get a good example of a good quality show dog. A dog correct to the show breed standard from a breeder that was doing the proper thing, I learned later a pretty show dogs does not mean a good healthy family pet. I used to show horses growing up so was torn to get another show dog, but now as a mother I was so wrong. My show dogs are so hyper they are horrible around my children and there friends. I do not consider them safe to be around children but my colored bostons I trust around my baby.

I learned you have two types of people. People that breed for titles and ribbons and over look temperament and health on the most part, and those that breed for all colors and love the breed no matter if it wins or not. I find that the colored pet breeders are not out running down the breeds colors and attacking any dog that is not to the show breed stand. If AKC and CKC register colored bostons then they are purebred and not sick or poor quality. My show dogs cost much more than my colored dog so who is breeding for money?? Not the colored breeders.

I have to say I can see why showing dogs is a dieing art. Why would anyone want to be around such mean people that are trying to ruin what is part of the breed because of fur color. I feel like we are back in the 50's and all blacks should be at the back of the buss. STOP judging color and love the breed in it's whole. Colored bostons were shown in the early 1930 look around you will see champion mismarks, champion fawns, champion whites etc. Coloured bostons  have always been apart of the breed. It took a club to change this to only allow brindles, then changed again later to allow black and seal. To get this changed you have to be a club member, and vote to change the accepted colors. Club members today will not let you join if you have a colored boston. (Try tell them you have a colored boston, American Boston Terrier Club and Canadian Boston Terrier Club both declined a colored boston terrier member) they are to afraid that if they allow colored boston owners into the clubs that they will be voted in and will be allowed into the show ring. As of now you have to show Colored bostons with UCA. (yes some colored bostons are being shown health tested and are great examples of the breed)

The breed standard that so many are hung up over has changed before and one day it will change again as the old timers that are to rigid to change will die off.  Stop being so close minded and look outside the box. I have seen over and over show bred dogs produce mismarks fawns reds etc. WHY as it's always been apart of the breed.

Colored dogs went into creating bostons so they carry for color.

To say that a red is more sick than a black is completely false. Yes there is good and bad with in every breed and back yard breeders do produce sickly dogs and even show breeders that do not breed for good health temperament  will produce sick off spring. You need to find a breeder of any color that does not cage a dog for life to just produce puppies and does the required health testing for the breed. A breeder that offers a written sales and health contract.

Buyers please look outside all the hate postings against color. Ask yourself are black people more sick than white. Are we back in the 50's again. The color of your skin or fur does not determine your health and disposition. American Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club do accept colored bostons. I know they do as I own some. If your wanting a healthy family pet like us, don't buy a show dog but a dog what ever breed you want from a breeder that has a family and raises well socialized family dogs. (Stay clear of kennel raised puppies that suffer from Kennel Syndrome, or people that attack other breeders and breed only for bragging rites) Spare yourself the huge financial loss we endured buying a good example of the breed from top show lines. Find a good colored breeder or not that breeds for an excellent temperament and good health. what good is a pretty dog with poor health and temperament. but has many champion dogs in it's back ground. We learned the hard way.
