    Off colored Boston Terriers...

For those who don't know, there are people breeding Boston Terriers in colors that are not allowed by the breed standard and are selling them for insane amounts of money. While few are doing so responsibly, the majority aren't so I created a guide about off colored Boston Terriers. You can check it out on [linkhttp://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=124633686&blogID=279972664&MyToken=fe9b5458-cbb0-4c41-94e7-f11c74dd3e29]My Space[/link] or on [linkhttp://groups.msn.com/SekcsZoo/abostonofadifferentcolor.msnw]MSN[/link]. do realise you are only advertising these off coloured dogs. i wasnt even aware of the matter until now. NOW i'm curious to see what they look like.
i would be willing to bet that 20 other people have perked up their ears and have gone off the see what they look like too. some of these people
may be intrigued and want to get one for themselves. unless you are showing then colour doesnt matter. their logic would be "Hey! a unique pet!"
like silver labs, or white dobermans.

    just a thought.

No need to be like that, I think she was just trying to let everyone know...

Wrong.  Color does matter.  Since you mention white doberman in particular, read here:

But it doesn't mean these dogs don't deserve a home...I got two white Boxers from a breeder, does that make me wrong...?

i wasnt being rude, and if i came off as being rude, i am very sorry. it wasnt my intention. i was only pointing out that there is no such thing as bad advertising. like i said... i didnt even know funky coloured boston terriers existed until now. personally i dont want one like that, but some other person MIGHT.

and I know that white dobies are not the healthiest things on the planet, but tell that to JQP seeing them for sale in the local want adds and thinking how cool and different it would be. when i first heard of white dobermans i was VERY intrigued... because i was thinking they were the same thing as White GSDs.... but i do have half a brain and researched them a bit and found out otherwise. there is actually a white female dobie up for adoption in a shelter three counties away.. she's been there for months, and i see them for sale in the papers all the time.
My original point was.... to someone on the street.... correct colouration is not important if they have a unique dog, AND if you dont intend to show..

    Moderator speaking...
This thread needs to remain on topic,....start another thread if you want to discuss breeding/placing of off color dogs please. This thread is also to remain civil and within the guidelines of the forum.
    Thank you.

no, but it matters.  In my breed, if I owned a white Doberman, I'd have to buy goggles for her eyes (because they're photosensitive), slather her with sunscreen on a daily basis (because of being prone to sunburn and skin cancers), I'd have to train her differently (because of a combined propensity toward slowed learning capacity and aforementioned photosensitivity which makes them often reactive when transitioning from light to dark locations.)  It matters in this example.

It's a crazy world we live in! New fad breeds, new fad colors in established breeds. There appears to be no end to it. Everybody is out to make a buck on something "unique" and "rare", and they are finding a sucker every day. A local couple here just invested in a "rare" silver Labrador, and I thought they knew better! All it takes is a flashy web page and some heartfelt lies, and tah da a new breed that everybody just has to be the first to own one![:@]

sorry but this is not new.... there have always been designer dogs. what do you call the Doberman?
miniature and toy poodles? Golden Retrievers? just look through the history of dogs. some guy in the 1870's had a brilliant idea for the perfect dog so he made it.
designer dogs will never go away. they have been around since dogs became dogs. its just as popular now as it used to be.
the ONLY difference is that ANYONE can own a dog today and the rich folks, or aristocracy, cant tell the lesser people, peasants, what to do anymore. though with BSL going on like it is... they are still trying. BSL is just telling people "You're all too dumb to own this breed, there arent enough responcible people to bother"
if you have a bowl of water, food, and shelter... you can own any dog you want, and as many as you want as long as you keep them clean.

they do deserve a good home, but people need to be aware of the potential health problems associated with these "flaws". not charged extra because they are a unique color.

edit: my post refers to white boxers. i dont know if there are potential health problems associated with off color dogs in other breeds.

True. Alaska's problems have costed us tons. Cancerous globs, bumps, amputated toes, etc.

they are still trying. BSL is just telling people "You're all too dumb to own this breed, there arent enough responcible people to bother"

this is a total misrepresentation of the reasoning behind BSL. BSL is an attempt (errorneous attempt) to get rid of aggressive breeds.

AGGRESIVE breeds? They are not aggresive breeds...they are just thought of to be aggresive breeds...

Wait a moment...how did miscolored Boston Terriers go to BSL and then Alaska's health problems and then aggresive breeds...? Wow we're on off-topic group today.
