    Official Puppy Announcement!*Update*

I've mentioned it in passing recently that I was considering getting a JRT pup but didn't want to get her unless I was working. Well I got a job this morning so I decided I'll make it official!

I am getting a female brown and white Jack Russel Terrier puppy who's 4 months old! And yes I'll post pictures as soon as I get them.

I was looking at larger breeds and had already decided on a German Shepherd next year but after meeting my trainer's Jack and reseaching them I decided that they would be the breed for me for this moment in my life. My trainer found a guy who has one pup left and is willing to give her to me for free as long as I raise her in a working enviroment. Which is great for me since I was looking for a second agility dog! Smile

When I meet the pup, I'll bringing my camera and my video camera so hopefully I can get some good shots of her.

ETA: I've got a couple pictures that are kinda blurry.. I'll post them in the Photo section just remember, these are pictures OF pictures so their quality isn't the best. Smile

YEEEEEEEEEE!  Jack Russell pup, oh I can't wait to see her pic's.  I have a nine, almost ten year old, male named Twister.  Like the weather event that can wreak havoc upon the land.  Hope you did your research.  I did and even kept a friends Jack for 4 months while she recovered from a bad accident and I still got a real education when I got my very own.  Teach her the rules from the very first day.  Is she AKC or JRTCA?  Have you picked a name?  I am so excited for you and for her.

Good luck. Purebred terriers are to 'hard core' for me. lol

I'm not sure about her registieries yet, I'll find out on Saturday when I talk to my trainer. I did my research, no worries there Smile And I spoke to some people I know that own Jack russells. High energy dogs are nothing new for me and Maze is also a high energy dog.

No names as of yet but I have had some good suggestions, I don't normally name my pets until I meet them. And this little girl will be in training from the day I bring her home pretty much.  I raise all my dogs the same way, there is no "Omg! Cute Puppy! Let them get away with everything" stage. Lol. My dad made that mistake with my last lab and he learned his lesson.

Sounds like you are pretty prepared! Ofcourse you know your going to owe us many pics when you get her. ;)

Of course! I was just thinking how a picture of a picture would turn out just so I could post a couple of her.. Lol. I've got two photos but I don't have a scanner..

High energy is not what I would caution you about!  These dogs are high drive with the emphasis on drive!  They are extremely predatory and often dog aggresive.  I have seen pictures of Jack Russell's with their faces completely torn up and mutilated by a badger underground and the dog's were not trying to get away but had to be dug out of the hide and pulled off!  They are tough little dogs and they were bred to take no prisoners!  Not trying to discourage you but want you to know that it's not just energy you will be dealing with.  I'm sure that the AKC will have bred them all into fluffy little balls of neurosis in a few years but the Jack Russell Terrier is a hunting dog.  I love the breed but they are not for everyone.

    Squeeeeeeee!!!!

Congrats on the job and your new puppy!    Maybe "Horton" would be a good name since her coming home to you was dependant on the job.

    just not double double   Wink

I understand that. Smile  I want the drive and I'll do my best not to put her in a situation that she'll chase something without my OK. My training club is starting to offer Go to Ground for the terriers so I'll be enrolling her in that as well as agility and rally.

VM I don't think Horton would be a good name for a female.. Lol. Smile

Go to ground is so much fun!  I'm sorry if it seemed like I was being ms. know it all and acting like you were clueless.  It sounds like you are going to have a blast with her.  If you get a chance in your area to attend a Jack Russell event it is the loudest dog event you will ever attend. LOL  So much fun to see that many JRT's in one place.  The ones I go to make the funniest announcement when a dog gets loose (happens regularly at these events) they say over the loudspeaker "Be on the the lookout for a small mostly white dog".  First time I went and heard that I was  too dense to realize they were making a joke!

No worries! I'm glad for the advice. This is my first terrier so I'm not to sure what to expect. Reading and speaking to people can only offer me so much..Smile

I gotta say, watching terrier races was probably the most manic thing I have ever witnessed!

    • Gold Top Dog

Maybe you could call her Hortina?Big Smile

How could ANYHTING be louder than BCs at Flyball competitions?

Congrats on both items of good news. Now, it makes sense, your question in the nutrition section. It's been my theory that small breeds do well on rich foods, like Innova, and the like.
