Cervical Dysplasia

    Cervical Dysplasia

I have had a mild form of cervial dysplasia for years, and have been going every 3-6 months for them to check it. I keep up with it for this very reason. I just got a phone call from my Ob-Gyn, that my mild form has bumped up to moderate dysplasia, CIN II. She also said something about my cervix being a bit swollen, but I might have heard her wrong on that because I kind of zoned out at moderate. I have to go back in 3 weeks for another colposcopy and I'm pretty upset about it. I know alot of women get the mild form, and alot of friends told me that they went through it and it would go away, but mine has gotten worse and the nurse said they really need to see what's going on in there. Anyone else gone through this, should I be really worried? I guess my worse fear is it to turn into cancer, or have to have my uterus removed and not being able to have children someday.

I had to have a coloscopy and then a LEEP procedure (my colposcopy didn't have favorable results) To be honest I don't remember exactly "why" I had to have these procedures but it started with a bad PAP. While neither procedure was fun, they were not bad either. I actually went to the barn to ride after both. Couldn't waste a day off! I have a friend who is an OB/Gyn she said it would be fine, but not to sit the trot or canter. I remember after the anesthetic wore off from the LEEP I had mild stomach discomfort. I have had menstral cramps that were far worse. I just used that as a guide to stop riding. I don't remember any thing after my colposcopy so probably was no big deal. Don't worry about the procedure.

I also had to go back for 2 years every six months for follow up PAP smears to make sure no recurring problems. I have not had an issue since. That was probably about 7 or 8 years ago.

I remember my sister completely freaking out when I told her, she said it was a form of "cancer". I don't know if she was right or not. I am a laid back person that way. My doctor lead me to believe I didn't need to worry and he was obviously right. I drove myself to and from my appointments.

    Good Luck!

It's very scary  to have to deal with this.  I've had florid hyperplasia in my breasts and had several biopsies over the years.  A change in the level of hyperplasia can be frightening, but stick with your doctor and get good info from them.  Your body can change.  I've gone from florid down to the lowest grade.  After my initial diagnosis and freak out, I quit smoking and read up on all the anti-oxidant foods I could and cancer-fighting diet changes.  I don't know if that's what worked, but it made me feel that at least I was doing *something*.

I've known 2 people now who've had cervical cancer and had good outcomes, so I think the science and treatments are really good when things are detected early.  Good luck and hang in there!!!  Hugs!!!

At this point, this is more of an annoyance than anything else. I talked with a girl I used to work with, who had moderate dysplasia, and she said I'll probably end up with cyto freezing done on me too. She said that in the terms of having children, the only problem she had was she needed help dilating and going into labor, due to the cyto freezing she had. But she's fine now...the thought of possible cervical cancer scares the crap out of me!

Years ago I had what started as being described as a cervical dysplasia.  After many paps and other tests, it was determined that it was caused by HPV and was also CIN II.  At the time my Dr told me the next step was cancer.  I had a cone biopsy done.  It was a day surgery with not a lot of side effects other than some serious cramping that day and for a few days I think and a little bleeding for a few days.  The effects of the anesthesia and the cramping were the two things that kept me in bed for a couple days just resting.  They got it all out and I had PAP's every 6 months for 2 years and then went to an annual PAP after 2 years of clean ones.

I am currently pregnant and my Dr, based on the fact that I had a cone biopsy done in the hospital which indicated that they had done deeper than they would with an in office procedure monitored me closely for the first 24 weeks of my pregnancy with the main concern being incompetent cervix.  It meant I got a sono at every appt so they could monitor the length of my cervix to make sure it wasn't shortening prematurely.  Since mine hadn't budged and another test they did came back negative, she changed me to a normal pregnancy.  I suppose the other end of the spectrum is having a hard time dialating when that time comes.

I wouldn't freak out too much but certainly don't put it off either.  Follow the regimen your Dr gives you and get it taken care of ASAP if there is anything more they feel they need to do.  I know that the knowledge has grown so much since I had my issues and I am sure the treatments have come a long way too.
