We ddin't look at the Saturday hours, but I think it's like 10am - 4pm.

    I must correct myself.....they are open 2 - 5 mon-fri and 2 - 4:30 on saturday.....these people really want to make it a hassle to adopt a dog. Angry

The hours at my local shelter are nuts as well.. And what they charge to adopt a kitten is beyond nuts!! But I'm not getting a kitten anymore since I'm getting pup so soon..

And on to other news of the day. I'M EMPLOYED!!! *dances a jig* I got a part time job at the local Tim Hortons doing dishes! It's Monday to Friday, 4 hours a day and they're willing to alter my hours to meet the limitations of how much money I can make! I start Monday so it's not another deal like they pulled at Canadian Tire.

And with that news, this means I'm garunteed (sp??) to get that little JRT pup!!! *dances another jig*

Maze's class was cancelled today due to weather. My trainer doesn't like doing jumps on wet grass which is understandable since Maze is still in training. But since the class was cancelled, Maze gets to come to the K9 Club on Saturday and we're gonna test how she does with the little dogs there.  So far she's been really good around little dogs so this will be interesting to see.

No, most likely they have a limited staff and they need to get the dogs fed, out, kennels cleaned, etc before they can have a person available to greet visitors and show them the dogs.  If they have other animals like cats, rodents, etc, too, that just multiplies the time it takes to get everything done.  Any place that has open doors like that, when anyone can come at any time rather than scheduled appointments after adoption pre-screening, really needs to have qualified staff available for adoptors, etc.  And, really, the dogs' care should always come first.  Yes

oranges - CONGRATS ON THE JOB!!!!!  Very excited for that kind of good news!!Drinks

Its really interesting getting to 'fight' different people - other than the instructors ( who basically just kick your butt the whole time).

In 1988, I was studying Tae Kwon Do and Aiki-jujutsu (same instructor. He initially had a black belt in Aikido. Got into Tae Kwon Do, Then the hybrid came along and taught us that.) and they would have us spar with each other, regardless of belt rank or gender. I learned the most from fighting with women. Men try to pile drive a punch through you. Women are smarter than that. They develop speed and accuracy and go after your weak points. So, my precision and speed vastly improved working with the women. But at first, a woman half my size (literally) was kicking my butt right and left.

I learned something valuable from another guy who was my size and height. We can block most peoples kicks with our shins. And another time, I learned how to read an opponent in the midst of combat, a most valuable skill. My opponent had a 3rd degree black belt in Judo and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He had a tendency to execute his favorite combo, a roundhouse kick and a roundhouse punch delivered simultaneously. I caught on to this and block simultaneously while sweeping his supporting leg. Down he went. I surprised both of us. Then he proceeded to kick my butt for the rest of the match but I learned some things. How to read an opponent. And, you can get blindsided, regardless of your belt ranking.

     Thanks everyone! I can't wait!

*bangs head on desk* I am sooo bored.. And I'm even making cookies for Maze since we just ran out this morning.. We're going through them faster since we started LLW training.. And I've got a head ache.... OH! And Maze is bored since it's raining out and She does not do well in rain. I promised her that when I'm done baking, we'll do some weave poles in the kitchen. I swear she is gonna be the weave pole QUEEN! Lol.... *goes to crawl in a corner..*

Ann, good luck with Belle this weekend, & congrats on the guilty plea!

Oranges, congrats on the new job, & the puppy.  You are going to be busy!

Meg, you may not want to hear this, but I'm going to say it anyway....If you are going to add another dog, make sure that Sam & Taz are totally trained, & well adjusted.  When I added Brinxx, Chyna was fully trained, but Bevo was still a "work in progress."  (Read, a black & rust psycho.)  I can honestly say that adding the third dog, at that particular time, was a HUGE mistake.  We made it work, & I don't regret it now, but at the time, I was completely miserable.  Suddenly, I had two dogs who needed intensive training, as they both had issues that needed to be resolved.  I struggled to find time to train & spend time with them, & still have time to do things on my own as well.  Any way, that's probably not what you want to hear, but I feel obligated to tell you that the jump from 2 dogs to 3 dogs is really, REALLY difficult.  (At least it was for me..)

I'm used to hearing things I don't want too.....your advice is great! I do want to add another dog, but I'm forcing myself to wait until Sam and I are working like a well oiled machine, and I can pay for everything the dog needs(actually 2 dogs, because I'm taking over all of Sam's care once I get a job).

I'm really just relishing in the fact that this is the first time EVER that my Mom has been willing to let me walk thru the shelter, she's actually willing to take me even if it's just to 'look'. I'm amazed, and I love it. But I've told her, as much as I want another dog for Sam to play with that's his size, I **am** waiting to add another until Sam is fully trained.

Good choice Smile Maze is trained and I'm comfortable enough to add the second dog but if Maze had major issues that need work, I wouldn't even consider bringing another dog in. But it sure is fun to look and at least your mom is willing to look.

Then again, both my dogs will be going to agility training so this should be fun.. Lol And I'll probably be on here a week after I get her complaining that she ate my underwear or something. Big Smile

That's what I'm hoping for!! I'm tired of living a lazy life. Really I have done nothing in the past 6 months activity wise besides work with Maze and not kill Alex.
