Yesterday, we were on one of our regular walks. The area where we go is a paved road, surrounded by swamp and heavily wooded areas. I think there is a hunting club nearby, as well.... We've always seen lots of birds, rabbits, raccoons, armadillos, possums, etc etc. Emma knows how to react in just about any situation.
Yesterday, a gray fox crossed the street right in front of us! Emma broke her heel, and flew out after the fox. OUCH! Emma's mom almost lost an arm! PRT were bred to hunt fox. This thing is a smidge taller than Emma, with a lot of doggy traits. It moves a lot like a dog, and it was very nonchalant about the whole thing. HOW did she know she was supposed to chase it, and how in the world do these little bitty dogs hunt prey bigger than them? It's always baffled me how Dachshunds would hunt badgers. This was MY first encounter with a fox, as well. It's amazing how tough a dog would have to be to go up against that.
