SAFE list for chews, treats and toys (glenmar)

This came up in a request on the Secret Santa thread, so I thought it might be a good idea to see if we can't come up with a very comprehensive list of toys/treats, chews, etc that we KNOW are made in the USA and so are presumably safe....or at least safer than those made in China.

My guys are picky about treats....they eat Charlee Bear, homemade or Blue Health Bars.  I know on the later two, not sure on the CB.  Bones are always 100% American beef marrow.

But, what about OTHER stuff?  Can you guys help to compile a list of safe stuff?  I think this would be helpful for all of us.  Check the labels on your treats, toys and chewies and let us know brand names please.

I use Zuke's brand treats when I buy commercial treats. It says they are made in the USA and corn and wheat free.

I've been using the new Eagle Pack treats. They come in chicken, duck, or salmon, and the rice used in them is grown in the US. I also get Sam's Yams and their new designer sweet potato chewies, Uncle Duke's I think.... they have flavors on them, like the basted rawhides.

Most of what mine get is just bites of meat or fruit, for Ena. I've gotta go get her some of the Gerber fruits. I know she'll love them.

I buy homemade treats from bluegrass barkery...the bake them in the back of the store!

i also got some biscuits @ whole foods, i think they're called world natural or something.

I also give castor and pollux good buddy biscuits.

as far as bones go, i give the shin bones...they don't splinter and last forever

     I use Smokehouse Beef Munchies

which are beef lung - made in USA.  Smokehouse has quite a few different treats and at least the non-chicken ones are made here.  I don't know about the chicken and duck because we can't use them

I have a question - what about Bill and Jack liver treats?  I used to buy them all the time, then stopped when Charlie was on a diet so I haven't bought them in a while - are they safe?

Tink loves Nylabones -- in all my years I've *never* had a dog before this gaga over a Nylabone!

But the ones David came home with yesterday are marked "Chicken flavored - Petit" and "Durable" (they have several different' consistency labels).

But they do say "Made in USA" altho it looks like the home company is in England.

The Kong biscuits are shockingly nice. I have a bag of the puppy snacks that I bought a couple of months ago. They have no wheat and were made in the USA. I got them to go in Ena's baby Kong, and she loved them, but I'm being funny about her skin, right now, so she hasn't had one, lately.

    We use treats from Wellness.

just because it says "made in the USA" doesn't mean the ingredients didn't come from somewhere else.

I usually buy some of the following, keeping a mix on hand:

Natural Balance treats from the allergy line (grain-free)

    Avoderm Natural Kookies

    Wellness wellbars

    Newman's Own treats

All of these are wheat, corn, and soy-free made with quality all-natural ingredients.  If I see one ingredient I don't care for in any treat, it goes back on the shelf!!!  I'm much more diligent in checking labels on anything I buy for Harry than I am for my own food, lol!

Tink loves Nylabones -- in all my years I've *never* had a dog before this gaga over a Nylabone!

nylabones aren't safe and have killed/caused quite a few dogs to have to undergo surgery. They aren't digestible and if your dog bites off a chunk and swallows it, which happens fairly often, your dog may be in big trouble.

They do make digestible Nylabones in fact.  But for that matter, I've heard of dogs ripping Kong's apart leading me to believe those could potentially be choking hazards.  Dogs have choked on kibble, bones, rocks, tennis balls.... My point is, you can only be so careful before you end up just plain paranoid.  FWIW, neither of my dogs have made much of a dent in any Nylabone.  But there is no substitute for supervision.
