collar organization

    collar organization

well, i think my collar organizational skills are becoming a disaster! There are 19 on this hanger, each of the dogs is wearing one, and there are a few that i assume are downstairs...

Anyone have a creative and attractive way to store collars besides stuffing them in a drawer?

I actually like your idea of the hanger.  But, hers are in a wicker basket in the hall closet.  I actually had so many that we never used I ended up getting rid of some of them and giving away some.

Organizing collars, what a concept. ~L~  no wonder I can't find a darned thing in my house.  I'm not organized. ~LOL~  Do I see some unworn collars??

I stuff my collars in a drawer. Leashes are thrown into a big tangled pile on the bottom of a closet.

Poor Max!  He's been wearing the same funky old collar since he outgrew his "puppy" collar. Sad He does have a nice assortment of bandannas that I keep neatly folded in a drawer.

Well I'm out, mine are stuffed in a drawer. I have a three drawer organizer on the porch.  Top is collars and leads, middle is poop bags, grooming, and medical supplies, bottom is toys I can't leave out and other stuff like harness, backpack, shirts.

actually i really like that idea. Right now i have a dog supply shelf in my bathroom closet and a plastic basket in the downstairs closet, but it might be a better idea to consolidate it all. Good thinking!

Mine are all on a hanger in my closet - so are my leashes.... it's been the best way I've found so far. They used to all be thrown in a box on top of the crate... but that was not working so well

I always had a plastic crate of toys out on the floor, more toys thrown on top of the dogs' crates, and leashes/collars on top of their crates, a small organizer in the room with a box of collars on top, but I got sick of all the clutter so I bought one of those plastic organizers and moved it all to the porch.  I still have one small plastic crate of dog toys that I keep out (under our big library desk in the living room/den) but now it looks nicer.  The leashes sometimes get tangled but I find I often use the same few so they are naturally on the top in the drawer.

What about a paper towel holder?  You know the ones that have the thingy in the middle where you slide on the roll of paper towels?  You might be able to mount it sideways in a hall closet or something?

    Nice collection BTW!

I only have a couple extra collars, and they go where the extra leashes go -- jumbled up with all the other seldom-used dog items I have but don't want to get rid of, in a storage bin in my closet.

If I had as many as you have and wanted to keep them easily-accessible...then I actually can't think of a better way than your hanger method.

Sam too! Actually, I think I replaced it about 2 years ago to the red collar, his was blue. Taz only has 2 callors, a plain black one, and a John Deere one. We hang our leashes on a peg by the back door...we've only got a few so they stay fairly neet.

BTW - sweet collection! I need to spend some cash on a few for Sam!

I'm so happy Thor can't see this... he only has two collars, the rest I give it away in Venezuela, to a rescue. I actually was thinking about buying him a new one from collarmania or a visiglo collar, but life happens and we have had other priorities Confused maybe for Christmas.

I kept them hanging on Thor's hanger near the door.

So, you'd think with nine resident dogs I don't have this problem.  Heh.  It's like, surely you don't have surplus crates.  My garage has ten at last count (I'm not entirely sure as last cleanout I broke down and folded up any I could), plus three in the house - not counting three soft travel crate/purse thingies for Zhi (why do I have three of these for the only toy dog I've ever owned?  I am not sure).

Anyway, I probably have dozens of collars between one thing and another.  Most rescues come with collars (I ALWAYS ask if they want their dog's collar and they never want it - I'll never understand it).  I always immediately trade this for a working collar with my ID plate on it.  For the first couple weeks they also wear the old owner's collar just in case, and then the collar goes into the collection.  Most are pretty ratty and reused only in emergencies.

I have a drawer right now, but at my old house where I had room for this, I had a tack room type rack (I forget where I got it, but it was for hanging spare reins and whatnot).  It held dozens and dozens of collars, by the buckle if there was one.  Plastic buckle collars went in my "dog box" which travels in the car.  They are good for putting on a loose dog (quick securing).  In that box I also had about half a dozen martingale type collars for scaredy cat shy rescues that sometimes came from shelters.

This one is very pricey, but you can make one like it easy cheesy.  I just remembered, in fact, that that's what we did - I got the design off the internet.  I wish we'd taken it with us but the people who moved in the house were horse people and loved it.  After they moved in we visited and they had filled it with horsey headgear!
