So, you'd think with nine resident dogs I don't have this problem. Heh. It's like, surely you don't have surplus crates. My garage has ten at last count (I'm not entirely sure as last cleanout I broke down and folded up any I could), plus three in the house - not counting three soft travel crate/purse thingies for Zhi (why do I have three of these for the only toy dog I've ever owned? I am not sure).
Anyway, I probably have dozens of collars between one thing and another. Most rescues come with collars (I ALWAYS ask if they want their dog's collar and they never want it - I'll never understand it). I always immediately trade this for a working collar with my ID plate on it. For the first couple weeks they also wear the old owner's collar just in case, and then the collar goes into the collection. Most are pretty ratty and reused only in emergencies.
I have a drawer right now, but at my old house where I had room for this, I had a tack room type rack (I forget where I got it, but it was for hanging spare reins and whatnot). It held dozens and dozens of collars, by the buckle if there was one. Plastic buckle collars went in my "dog box" which travels in the car. They are good for putting on a loose dog (quick securing). In that box I also had about half a dozen martingale type collars for scaredy cat shy rescues that sometimes came from shelters.
This one is very pricey, but you can make one like it easy cheesy. I just remembered, in fact, that that's what we did - I got the design off the internet. I wish we'd taken it with us but the people who moved in the house were horse people and loved it. After they moved in we visited and they had filled it with horsey headgear!
