    Lost and found

So, my mom calls me when I get out of school from her work, saying she has to show me something. Okay? I didnt have a clue what she was talking about, but she she got out of work she came to pick me up. We drove back to her work and im just thinking what in the world does she want to show me thats at her work?  So we go inside, and my old ferret cage that was in the garage was in there, wth?...

My mom and the other guy craig working there were just sitting in the front office at around 12, when they saw something run by the window. So craig goes outside, and.. theres a ferret, running along the outside of the building. Their store is next to a busy highway, with no houses close by. I thought maybe he escaped from the dog daycare that i volunteer at near by. We called them, but no missing ferrets.

Hes not afriad of people, so he must have lived with someone before. Either they didnt take care of him, or hes been out for a REALLY long time. His nails are like insanely long. He was walking all funny because the nails were bending his toes when he walked. And its hard to tell but he seems pretty skinny for a ferret. When I had my ferret a long time ago, you could always feel her ribs but they never really stuck out like his do. And you can feel his hip bones really sticking out.

The "sucker for animals" gene seems to run in the family because my mom went and got him some food, treats, my old ferret cage form the garage, a water bottle, and a harness. She "ferret proofed" the front room of the store and let him run around in there all day(after he slept for like 4 hours even with all the people coming in and out). The "rescue story" was sent out to the rest of the stores she works with and he has become sort of a "mascot" for the store in less than 2 days.

The second I got to the store i knew I was keeping him. whether they let me or not lol. I called my dad (hes the one i live with, sorta) and got the usuall answer from him "I dont care".

They found him on wednesday, and I brought him back the next day. I completly ferret proofed a whole room for him. He has no idea hes supose to "go" inside the litter box though, we went right next to it.

I found out this morning, that I CANNOT keep a water dish in his cage, bottle only. He decided to give himself a bath. And the whole cage while hes at it lol.

I havent introduced Bailey and him yet, just because i think he has fleas and I want to make sure he gets settled in first. They had a quick snif through the cage. Bailey wasnt sure what to make of the little critter. He was sniffing around all day trying to figure out where that new smell came from lol

He is SO cute. I trimmed all his nails so he can walk normaly now, and Im giving him a bath and getting him some flea stuff this weekend. I got a bunch of pics of him last night, I havent loaded them yet but ill post them when i do. Ive been trying to find a name for him, any suggestions? A pic would prolly help....

I love ferrets!!  What kind of store does you mom work at?  Maybe that could be a start for the naming process.

I love ferrets too!  Any ideas for a name yet?  And where are the pictures??!!!  I'm sure you will have him in god health in no time.

I would treat all your animals - and the house - for fleas, and worms too, while you are at it. Smile

She works at a car part store called Autopart international. Its sorta a big chain so theres lots of other stores and she sent them all the rescue story, and everyone LOVES him now. The people at the store want to all put together some money to buy him a cage so he can come visit the store somtimes lol.

And yes, we actually just ordered flea meds for all the cats + Bailey. The cats are in a different house than the ferret, they havent had contact with him yet so im not worried about them. But im not letting Bailey and him get real close yet. And Im getting the ferret his meds this weekend. And some better food, she got him this cheap store brand the day she found him. But I dont think it really mattered at that point, chepa food is better than no food. After he gets settled in I might try to do raw with him like i feed Bailey.

I dont have many pics of him now, I was going to wait until after his bath tonight. But here are a couple from yesterday, on his first night home.

I love him!!!  Ferrets are so awesome, I don't know if it is still the case but they used to be illegal in MI.  The first time I played with one was in college, just so cute.

You are right, so so food is much better than no food.  He probably thinks he's in heaven at your place.  I am trying to think of a cool snappy name, but all I can think of is Roscoe - lame take on Rescue.

    what a cutie!

you might want to have him scanned for a microchip - just in case.
