No Glenda, this is NOT a snake! It's an iguana
About 20 years ago after I first moved into my house (with my 1st husband 'the Jerk';) we were driving into the driveway and an old branch had fallen off the live oak tree. One of those ratty old branches you see in Florida covered in lichen and mold and yuck. But as we came up the driveway er ... it MOVED.
I grabbed Bill's arm and screamed "DON'T HIT IT" -- he told me I was nuts and it was just an old branch.
Er ... nope. IT was an iguana. But where this one is brightly colored, the one in our driveway was black and white (different time of year? they adapt to their surroundings) and literally looked like a tree branch. It was very close to the size of this one - probably 3 feet to this one's 4. But head to butt mine was as big as my fist/forearm.
Bravely we got out of the car (after we figured it wasn't a gator) and Bill went after it with a broom. Ha! He just grabbed it right out of Bill's hand! It finally ran away but had obviously been living under the house (he made a dive for the crawlspace and that was what Bill was doing with the broom -- trying to keep him out. No harm down -- we got him to leave which was all we cared.
Down here people tend to just "turn loose" of things like exotic snakes and iguanas after they become bored with them because "the weather's nice" and some of these things can become gargantuan because they grow to the size of what they eat and their habitat.
But next time I bet this guy wishes it was Avon calling ... not an iguana!
