Interesting (good) new program at RSPCA

This applies to the RSPCA in the UK, you guys may have something similar in the US already.

The RSPCA has started a new program called "Home For Life", which will take care of pets in the event of the owner's death, if there is a danger the pet won't be looked after. Basically if you go online, you can download a PDF document which contains info and a form. The info is legal wording to be written into your will, handing care of the animal over to the RSPCA in the event of your death. The form is information about your pet, everything from distinguishing markings to their particular likes and dislikes. Send off the form to the RSPCA, and they send you a wallet card to carry stating you're part of the scheme. Put the legal info into your will, and the RSPCA agrees to do "everything possible" to rehome the animal in a suitable home.

I think this is a cool idea. A lot of people pass away leaving animals that families are unwilling or unable to care for, and the pets get lost in the shuffle. I like the idea that people can put this one clause into their will, fill out a form to notify the RSPCA that their animal may need this service, and the RSPCA agrees to look after their pet.

It's sad to think about, obviously, but provision for our pets in the event of our death is a responsible part of pet ownership. I like that they are doing what they can to make it easier for people.
