Plushies

 LOL plushies or stuffies last seconds in my house so he doesn't get purchased ones very often and only VERY cheap ones.  So I use old t shirts - I tie knots in the four corners and he can sling it around and chew on it and his latest is to untie the knots then bring it to me so i can put more in

I have also used kitchen/dish towels the same way - cheap and cheerful and he loves it.  For a not so aggressive chewer, socks would probably be fine.

haha... dont get your hopes up... yet to find a real lasting plush toy... but if it helps you, mine got better after the puppy phase. now plushies even last DAYS!!!

i buy my plushies at IKEA. they have really cheap ones that are made for toddlers, so no button eyes or anything. *shrug* it's just the way it is... lol

Yard sales are your friend!!

Plus I tend to play more with the destuffed remnants. They make for a great game of fetch or tug of war.

i guess an important piece of information would be that he's teetching right now and some of his adult teeth are actually already in.

If he is teething he wants to chew something hard, like a raw bone or a kong or better still, something chilled or frozen.  Stuffed frozen kongs are great, you can also dampen on dishcloths and freeze them.  Stuffies are not a good teething toy, they are great for DESTROYING, not for heavy duty chewing.

Yard sales!  Normally I can't find squeaky toys, but I load up on stuffies.  Less than a $1 a pop so I don't care that they only live 30 seconds.  The think I had that lasted the longsest was a stuffed heart I got from dog.com.  I think it was Boomerang brand but it doesn't look like they have it anymore.  It was a blue heart w/ a bandana like pattern on and then red trim.  I found some immatation ones but not the one I'd bough before.

Anyway, I rambled.  Point of all this is that stuffies don't last so I don't buy them except for really cheap ones at yard sales.

generally don't buy them. You can buy the Tuffie brand, it might stand up to a small dog.

I've stopped buying stuffies.  Their life span is less than half an hour in my house.    Harry even chewed through a Tuffie toy in about 10 minutes, and those ain't cheap toys!  Sigh.  I stick to bones, hard rubber toys, and tennis balls.  He even destroys rope toys, though they tend to last a few days at least.  I've gotten the yard sale advice, too, sounds like a good idea, since you can get them so cheap that it doesn't matter how long they last.  I love the old t-shirt idea!  I'm going to have to employ that one.  BF is kinda clumsy when he eats, and is constantly getting impossible-to-remove stains on his shirts.  He usually will then reserve those to wear under his hockey gear, but I can probably grab a couple of them to knot up for Harry.  Sounds like they'd make a great tug toy, for sure!

Ditto! I think the longest lasting one we've had in our home was 5 miuntes tops.

I had to laugh at this, too, because I have some of the most destructive chewers known to man- my dogs, between the three of them, have actually torn those black kongs to pieces in a matter of minutes, so stufficide is quite common at my house.

Bugsy, your mamma must be some kinda GENIUS!  I'm sure DH has some shirts around that fit the bill for this..

Plushies don't last too long here either, but there is one that Max loves and we usually get about three months out of one of them.  It's a monkey that makes a weird monkey laugh instead of a squeak.
