Wow - I just don't get it.  I have a cell phone but did without for a couple of years.  When we decided to go with just cellphones (we had VOIP before) I just wanted a basic phone, no fancy gadgets, and I don't do text messaging.  In fact I hate it - probably b/c I know several people who will text while I'm visiting with them and I kinda find it rude - that and if I need to tell someone something I'll just call.  

I'm so plain, my phone isn't even capable of taking pictures - though I could go online and download ringtones or get email, I don't and will never.
 

Me too, on all these points.  My phone isn't even turned on unless I need to make a call for some reason and I do leave it on if I'm traveling out of state, but that's it. I don't do ringtones, either. Have you ever been a room with a bunch of people whose phones are ringing and they're all playing different tunes?  It's enough to drive you nuts.

Joyce so I'm not alone!  People look at me oddly when I tell them I don't text message, I don't have a PDA, and I don't have a fancy ring tone.  I keep my phone on, only b/c it serves as my home phone as well - so I worry I won't remember to turn it on at some point and someone desperately needs to reach me. 

When we got our phones (my SO has the exact same cell phone as me) - I think the sales guy was confused when we said show us your most basic phone you have.   

My phone is now over 4 years old, it's beat up, scratched and dented but for the 5 minutes a month that I use it for it's just fine.  I text more often than call since I have a package for texts but the phone itself is pay as you go. 

I am becoming addicted to my iPod Touch now that I downloaded the new version with games etc.  DH has a crackberry and I detest it.  He is constantly distracted by it and is answering work emails when he normally wouldn't be.  In fact, Morrison chewed up his first one a couple of weeks ago.

Maybe, just maybe the crackberry had a little peanut butter smeared on it?!?! 

I used to be like that!  I had the most Plain Jane phone out there and had kept it forever.  In fact, when the battery failed, it was prohibitively expensive to replace it, it was cheaper just to get a new phone.  Then I wanted a phone with a camera just for spur of the moment things I wanted to capture, etc.  Then I thought it would be cool to have a calendar and good organizer.  It was cool to have all those things in one item.  I keep it on vibrate and only text when I have time, not in the middle of meetings, lunches with friends, etc.  But I do love that all the things I want are contained in this tiny device.  I always have a camera, calendar, rolodex, video recorder, mp3 player, internet, games and books to read with just the one device.

Oh yea, I had my old phone for close to 4 years.  The only reason I changed was because it was starting to have problems.  Something happened inside the screen so there was a blob on it and it was losing messages and the internal clock wasn't working.  I'd wanted one of these for years but wouldn't justify the cost.  STBX told me this last time to just get it and I'm so glad I listened.  It's just so handy.  I need to know something, ok just look it up.  And I got an awsome deal on eBay b/c I could do it while watching a show in Disney.  That was so cool.  I haven't loaded any MP3s on it yet, might have to give that a shot soon.

I get 100 minutes a month for $22.00 ($3.00 of that is for roadside assistance) and I can't remember the last time I used more than 5 to 10 minutes in a month other than when I went to Albuquerque a year ago for a funeral.

I have Alltel, and between mobile to mobile, free nights/weekends, and My Circle, I barely use minutes. I have a family plan that I share with Brett and my mom, and we've never come anywhere near our regular airtime limit.

My mom never wanted a phone, but when Brett and I are at work, she watches Addisen. If she didn't have a phone, I'd have no way to find out where she was with my child if she had to leave the house. So I added her to my plan and literally walked into Alltel and said, "Hi. I need the oldest, crappiest Nokia you have. All it has to do is work. That's it." (My mom is very bad with technology lol). So the sales person dug through the stock and found a phone they didn't even know they had anymore. I got it for free, and my mom is still using it.

 My parents, not wanting to change, never realized the value in having a cell, but after this past hurricane season, they've realized it was their only form of communication for the critical days of the storm.

 When my in-laws were still alive, we got my MIL a cell phone one year for Christmas and paid for the service.  She thought we were crazy, said she'd never use it, etc.  But my FIL was in ill health and my MIL had suffered a serious fall on the Maine ice, so we really wanted them to have it.  At first she just kept it in the car and didn't use it.  Then, she slowly  started using it to check in on my FIL when she was out shopping.  Eventually, she really started to rely on it and found it convenient to call home and ask if there were certain things in the cupboard, to tell my FIL if she was running late, etc.  It took a while but we won them over.

oh duuuude... I have a tmobile Shadow that I initially got so I could be in touch with my emails all the time when I was supervising the clinic.  It was SO HELPFUL to me because I could be away from my desk and still be in touch with upper management.  My phone has Windows Mobile, so I can do powerpoint, excel, word, and one note.  It also takes great pics and has unlimted internerd access, and is synced with my hotmail account.

 I have been addicted to texting for YEARS... I used to constantly go over my allotted amount, so we finally got unlimited.  SO much easier.

 I think, with "texting", that we do it for a couple of reasons:  on a base level, "texting" is socially acceptable where speaking out loud on the phone is not.. we've all been in a waiting room where someone is gabbing away into his/her phone forever.  Texting is more private a conversation.  Also, texting allows you to set the pace of a conversation over the course of a day or so, when you don't necessarily have time for a phone call.  For Teenagers, I think texting has replaced the "passing of notes"... it's so much easier to say awkward things in TYPE than it is out loud....

Yes it does! I have the Iphone 3G and I access the dog forum all the time from my phone. I've posted from it too on a few threads, no problems at all. I guess I probably shouldn't have told you that though

I'm completely addicted to my Iphone, but its a huge lifesaver while I'm at work so I can still access my email and everything in regards to promotions. Funny, I was out Saturday night with the girls, accidentally dropped my phone onto this busy main street, screamed so loud that everyone turned to stare at me. Ooops! haha.

I didn't have unlimited texts at first, but then I got sick of trying to watch I don't go over, so the week after I just decided I better get unlimited texts! Texting + Iphone = LOVE

You...you....WEEINE. Maybe Santa will bring one in his sleigh for me - altho there has been hints that Santa may stop at a place with pretty light blue boxes, and white ribbons...
