Cider Mill Sunday (mrstjohnson) **pic heavy**

My family has a tradition of going to the Cider Mill every fall.  Since we have been gone the past 3 years we haven't gone, so it was nice to be back.  It was also Riley's first time.  For those of you unfamiliar, a Cider Mill is where they make apple cider and donuts, etc. etc.  They have become a total tourist trap, but they are still fun.  After the Cider Mill by parents throw a huge Alaskan King Crab leg party where we eat crab until we burst.  It was awesome.  Riley wasn't too big on the crab, but loved the corn.

It started out in the am at the cider mill...

Riley was enjoying a cooking from my grandma, my mom took her for a walk and this is what she brought back

Mmmm, fresh cider donuts are the best! Hot and greasy goodness!

    Thanks everyone!

Ann - we go to Blakes Orchard in Armada...I think it is 35 mile road and Romeo Plank on the east side.  It's funny, it used to be in the middle of nowhere, now there are homes everywhere.  Here's the link:  http://www.blakefarms.com/  This is where we get our Christmas tree from too...cut your own type of thing.  The apples are waay expensive, along with everything else, but it was fun.

Blakes Orchard is supposed to be a great place. I know "where" it is as I travel to Imlay City and it takes me near there. Probably too far for us for a trip, I was contemplating Dexter Big Smile or somewhere else closer. Blakes is supposed to be the place for Halloween too. Riley is probably too young but I guess it is a ton of fun.

mmmm don't you just LOVE cider mill season? Carmel Apples are my fav! Which Cider Mill was that? The best one used to be near Stoney Creek but it is such a tourist trap now. There is one by me that is just a cider mill - none of that extra touristy garbage. It's nice and quiet and you can go pick apples and such. I love it.

Btw, your DH looks so familiar. Is he originally from SE MI?

oooh, Blake's Orchard.  I grew up very near there.  It used to be the road was a 2-laner. I'd probably be shocked to see it now.  We took a field trip there by school bus when I was in the 2nd grade - still have the pictures.

I knew that comment was coming Stick out tongue  I will have to say they were sooo good.  None of that claw garbage either, all long beautiful fat red legs!  Yummy!!  I ate 4 and I was stuffed.  DH indicated he had 8 and I thought he was going to Ick!

DH is actually from the northwest suburbs of Detroit, but he went to State for a short time before they politely asked him not to register again Wink

It's still a two-lane road to Blakes, but it is so commercialized now.  They have a little petting farm, etc. with a corn maze but it costs $8.50 a person when it used to be free!  What a rip!  Maybe next year...
