    Tearin' down the house...(marlania)

    Well, the kennels, anyway.

    A few weeks ago, I posted that our rescue kennels were destroyed during Hurricane Gustav when a huge pecan tree crashed through the structure.

    Today, we got a crew together and started taking a lot of it down. Thankfully, a lot of the lumber could be saved. Meanwhile, my dad finished the sketch for our dream kennel, which we are using to get bids to apply for grants. If we could actually have what is designed, we would have an awesome new facility.

    Also, I'm starting a responsible pet ownership club at my school. Our club fair is next week, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to do something lik ea penny drive and a supply drive later once I get members and we're not as focused on hurricane recovery.

    So that's the update. For pictures of what used to be our kennels, go here http://www.hopeforanimals.com/ There's about 25 or so pics.

     Thats just scary.  Those pics are awful!  I can't imagine it.  I didn't see your former post, but there were no dogs in those kennels at the time the tree crashed onto it were there? {Shivers}

    You know, some people laugh at us poor Ontario folk with our cold cold winters, but I'm sure thankful for our complete and utter lack of hurricanes lately.

    Anyway, I hope you get your kennels built the way the design calls for.  Post pics of them when they're done please!

    No, we evacuate our dogs for every storm, even if it's just a tropical storm. All of the dogs were in temporary homes. Many of them are still in temporary homes, but we were able to use about six extra kennels on the property in a separate area that wasn't damaged.

     Well thats a relief.  Will the new kennel be a little more storm resistant?

    Yep, the new kennel is more building-like. That, and there will be one less tree to fall into it lol
