    rwbeagles-Our home is under attack

By frenzied squirrels and dropping acorns. You would not think two such relatively small items on one's roof would make such racket but indeed they do!

Having been hit on the noggin by a falling acorn I can also say IT HURTS, a lot more than one might think. Given they fall from a HUGE tree they must gather a lot of force on the way down. Kinda like dropping a penny off the Empire State.

The squirrels have lost their tiny little minds and have turned our front lawn into a minefield...LOL. I swear you'd think our winter was like "Fargo" or something! The way they panic and freak out. Fighting over ONE acorn when there are about 100 laying on the ground. They remind me of that freaky little critter in "Ice Age".

Oh yes and walking outside at this time of year without shoes? Bad idea. Broken acorns...acorn "tops" are adept at slicing feet wide open folks! flip flops at the minimum!

The leaves have not changed yet nor do they show any sign...too early. I love Fall...aside from the acorns...and extremely agitated squirrels. They make ME feel like I should be doing something more to prepare but honestly? Winter is no biggie here lol.

We had a super bad acorn year here 2 years ago. I think it rotates - one year the acorns will be horrible, the next you'll hardly have any.

and yes, the acorn minefield is a broken ankle waiting to happen!

We have the same problem...but with pecans.  And the dogs MUST bring them in the house to crack open, so shoes inside are a good idea also!

gawd pecan trees! I hated ours at the old place we lived. That tree is toxic to grass so...we never had any. Just weeds that could take the tannin LOL. Very annoying because we're very much "lawn people"

It's nice to have the nuts I suppose if you like pecans...which I don't. Our hounds used to eat them too...and Susie matter of fact ended up at the vets with a shell piece lodged very painfully in her gums...poor dear. I've known folks who's hounds eat so many they actually become overweight and it takes the owners awhile to figure out where the food's coming from...lol.

    Great shots!

Our squirrels must be a different variety b/c where yours are brown (belly and tips of tail hairs) ours are whitish.

Well you can send some of your squirrels my way!! U have a ton of acorns in my yard but not one single squirrel. I actually WANT them in my yard!!! I know alot of people hate them because they raid the birds feeders but birds wont even eat out of my feeder I have for them. So squirrels you are more than welcome to come munch away here!!

I wish we had those wild looking ones that are red with the tufty ears!

I hate squirrels.  And crows.  My house is under siege from both.  I've got a tree between my fence and the neighbors with large hanging branches that make a perfect bridge for them to get on my roof and make lots of racket in the morning when I'm trying to sleep.  Then the crows settle in on my yard and house creating a huge racket!  My neighbor has about a gazillion bird and squirrel feeders and attracts every winged and legged creature in a 5 mile radius.  It's a good thing neither of my dogs has a peanut allergy with the number of them the stupid squirrels drop in my yard w/o eating them!  Angry

LOL they're LOUD eh? We have only a few crows because we have GRACKLES...which are way worse than crows. They flock in the thousands here in parking lots and roost in trees there. NASTY things.

I have no great love for squirrels but they can be amusing sometimes. the one that lives in our oak out front is addicted to 'shrooms which is HYSTERICAL.

Least the crows here pick over and clean up the dead squirrels on the roads along with the vultures!

The only other birds I see regularly are cardinals and doves.

Yep, the one on the right, the common easter gray squirrel.  That's it.  I think yours are a bit prettier.

     I hate squirrels.

I'm with you in that sentiment. They are destructive little creatures. We "had" a rhododendren (sp?) one winter they ate it. Destroy my pumpkins I like to decorate in the fall with. I have not been able to figure out how to keep them from eating them. Bitter apple and hot sauce do not work.

I do not have an oak tree (kinda wish I did I love them) so I don't have acorn problems. However my in-laws have the problem this year at their home up north. When we visited we had to carefully find a place to park the car where it didn't get sap from the pines, or pummeled with acorns.

We have an acorn problem here too, so far tho it the Black Walnuts they are much bigger and make flying hazard's when the lawn is being mowed.   I would much rather have the pecans since I like them better than walnuts

LOL, do you live close to me??????  I feed the squirels and all the birds but so does all my neighbors.  Stick out tongue  The squirels love to sit in the tree and yell at Rocky.....  My problem right now is the moles and the armadillos(sp)  not so much them as my "Mole dog Rocky".  Everywhere they make a mound Rock and Hot have dug to China.   There are so many holes in my front yard...I mean craters that we cant go out at night for possibly breaking a leg.   This weekend I will be trying to fill in holes again....Angry  He has caught a few but usually plays with them and they get away.  He has brought a few possums to me too but just about the time I think they are dead......they are gone!  Thus the term "Playing possum"

we have Black Walnut trees too....we're blessed NOT. LOL. I am actually scared to go out where they are when they're dropping. Those things are frickin HUGE and solid as rocks!

This neighborhood was built on an orchard back when so...there are a lot of interesting trees here. I LOVE our Oak tree...she is the most beautiful tree I've seen, her shape and height and balance is lovely.
