How many shots is too many?

How many shots is too many?

My adoptee dog got the DHLPP shot at the breeders and he got one at the vet a month later.  The vet office says he needs boosters.  I am going to getting paperwork from the breeder and signed by her stating that she did give him the shots.  Does anyone think that this should be enough information for the vet to maybe decide that he has had enough shots?  BTW my 2 yr sHiH Tzu also got rabies and lyme at the vet.  Wouldn't this make him up to date between the two of them giving him the DHLPP shot within a months time?  I don't want to over due the shots on the dog.

Dr Jean Dodds recommends parvo and distemper at 9, 12 and between 16-20 weeks.  Rabies after 24 weeks.  Those are the only vacines I use.  If you are in a high lyme area, I can understand that vacine, but often it's as bad as the illness because of side effects.

Thanks Glenda.  I got the lyme shot because I found a deer tick on my dog and Lyme disease is big up in my area.

I would love to tell the vet to go scratch.  Hopefully when I get the health certificate from the breeder who had him before me the vet will sign off on the shots. Then I will be all set for the obedience class.

You have me confused, is this the same dog you were talking about on another forum?   Is this a pup or an adult?

Same dog (2yr old) this post I didn't get many answers so I posted another.

I have to be very careful with shots and my Shih Tzu. I have to space them out. I live in a heavy Lyme area, but don't have my dogs get the Lyme vac. I do make sure to use frontline plus on them faithfully. Their breeder told me not to have them get the Lyme vaccine.
The breeder should have given you all the paperwork listing all the shots the dog has had.

Do you think paperwork from the breeder stating that he got the DHLPP shot will be enough to convince the vet that he has had the shots?  She is sending me a Health certificate that will say what shot when and the Type and serial number.

Since a health certificate has to come from a VET then yes, that should be enough for your vet.  If this is just something the breeder does up on her computer, it's anyones guess. MY vet knows and trusts me that if I say a pup has had X, s/he has had it.  The front desk however, won't write it down unless I bring in the danged vile.....
