How can you ignore your own dog's bodily functions???

Wolf (my roomates dog) had been whining all morning as well as running upstairs 4 times so I had to get 4 times and put him back downstairs. If I leave him up here, he'll pee on stuff.

Now Wolf is 8 and has been with this guy since he was born.. Yes Roomie bred Wolf's mother..So you'd think he knew what a dog needs.. But this morning I heard yelling and Wolf whining and howling to go out.  Then I heard a door slam. I thought Roomie had taken Wolf out for a morning pee (at 1 in the afternoon...) But NO!! He left Wolf downstairs with out a walk and went to town with a buddy!!

Wolf isn't small either so you can't forget about him either.  But this guy balantly ignored his own dog's needs!  Alex and I had Wolf to the point where he was a pleasure to walk and now we can't control him at all. And Wolf will not stop whining even after Alex was able to take him out. Wolf will not listen to commands anymore cuz Roomie has taught him that if he barks and whines long enough, he doesn't have to do the command. Or if he lunges for the cookie and snaps at your face, he'll get the cookie.

And last week he let Wolf out 4 times off leash. Just opened the door and let him go because he didn't want to walk his dog. My neighbor owns a Rotti mix who HATES Wolf with a passion and there have been a couple dogs fights as well as a trip to the E.R.  And make matters worse, Wolf is not neutered.. Roomie wants to breed Wolf because he wants a puppy.. Yeah I wanted a puppy out Maze but I got her spayed because I refuse to add a problem litter to the world.  So Roomie and I don't see eye to eye and we've numerous fights about it.

Speak of the devil, Roomie just came home and go figure yelling at Wolf for whining and wanting out.. *sigh*

Roomie is an idiot.  I want to throttle Roomie and steal Wolf.  And then neuter him.  Wolf AND Roomie.  Big Smile

Agreed! We've already got plans when we move out of buying Wolf and getting him to a vet. He hasn't seen a vet since the last time I took him 2 years ago.. And he needs to go. He's got a black bald spot on his back that really needs to get checked.. *sigh* I'd take him my self but I can't afford it right now.

    YES!

In my opinion that is abuse!  That poor dog is asking to go out and basically being told to hold it!  I can only imagine how frustrating that is for you!

I guess I'm wondering how you can just sit there and watch this happen.  I realize that you would be enabling the jerk roomie, but how can you not let the dog outside when he's been holding it that long?  How hard would it be to take the dog outside -- or take him on walks?  If you are planning on trying to take him with you when you move, what is the harm in just treating him like he is one of your own right now?  I could never sit back and watch someone abuse their dog like that.  Just take care of the poor thing.

     Stupid roomie...

Is there any chance that a serious conversation with him would help? I feel sad for the dog...

When Roomie is gone, Alex takes him out. I can't walk him anymore since he has no manners anymore.  But if Alex takes him out when Roomie is home it'll start a fight. I take care of him in the best of my ability  but since they live downstairs I don't see him everyday but I hear him.

I've had serious conversations with him and he's the kind of guy that doesn't care about anything but him self. He'll take the advice, nod and then continue on the way he was.  He'll use us to feed/walk and generally care for his dog when he doesn't want to if we started walking him regularly and I can't afford another dog right now.

Well, that's pretty messed up... Both the situation and the roomies behavior.

    Poor dog...

Yeah. I give him treats and lovin's when he comes upstairs in the morning. We're trying to get Roomie evicted due to the damage done to the bedroom. It's because of him we had to wait since June to get the new carpet done.

JMHO, but that is abuse and since you know about it/have witnessed it, you really need to report it.  I can see why you want the roomie evicted but if he leaves and takes Wolf with him, he'll treat the dog the same way in the next place he lives.  I know you want to take Wolf when you move, but that would be a long time to let Wolf suffer at the hands of this guy if he stays, and IIRC you're getting a GSD puppy - what happens if when you move out you can afford two dogs but not a third?

I have tried to report it. But the SPCA here doesn't view it as abuse because he's got food, water and exercise so they won't touch him unless Wolf is running around town off leash again with no tags.

That's so sad! Maybe it's time for Wolfie to *accidentally* find a new (good) home?????
