Thanks - at least now I know what to call it.

Ok. I'm going to the pharmacy to get the salts and soak the paw. Yesterday he was limping at night, but I think it was because he sleept over the paw. I think it's not a interdigital cyst... If the salts + antibiotics + polysporin (neosporin is the same thing??) work and it doesn't develop again, I will feel relieved, but if that thing comes back, I will do anything, even get him to Gainesville, where my mom lives, you bet!

The only family we have around are Thor, Luke and Zarina... you know.

Oh, so sorry to see that Thor has an ouchy toe.  I hope it turns out to be nothing serious and he will be healed soon.  He is so sweet and it is such a shame the Vet felt he had to muzzle him.  But from my good friend, who is a Vet, I know how many times he has been bitten by dogs in pain and I guess some Vets just don't want to take a chance with a large dog.  Get well soon big guy.

    That's it...

My boxer had it also, the vet gave us some antibiotics and it disappeared, but it came back every once in a while. I didn't notice that it hurt, my dog acted normal, walked normal, he would just lick it a lot.

Anyway, we're sending some good vibes your way!

Thanks!! The toe looks a little better now and Thor had his paw wrapped with a warm towell soaked with Epson salts. Tomorrow I'll try to teach him to stand with his front paws in a plastic box with warm water... We didn't went to the dog park today, we had a nice walk around town and I think tomorrow we will do the same.

Another thing that has let me thinking it's about the lawns treated with chemicals. I'm always lookind for the little signs and I don't let him walk over that grass, but, do you think that could be another cause for the bulge in his toe? Confused

Maybe if he had a little cut and then walked on the treated lawn it may have irritated it.

Sorry that I didn't see this until now - poor Thor!  Please give him some snuggles for me...  he is such a good boy that he let's you treat his paw.  Sorry that the vet was not very good with either of you...

If it doesn't go away and you go back to the vet you might want to ask for an x-ray of the paw.  Morrison had a similar bump about a year ago and it turned out to be a sliver that had worked it's way all the way in, even I could see it on the x-ray.  Since it didn't seem to bother him too much (no licking or chewing) we used some antibiotics and watched it.  You know that sliver worked it's way out on it's own and we didn't need to cut his paw open!  It was amazing and just like the vet said it would be like.  The key is to watch it.

I know you don't have any family close, I understand how lonely that can feel.  Been there, done that.  You'll have a "family" of friends in no time!

How strange another dog at our dog park tonight had been at the vet today with what looks like the same thing on his paw.

Could it be a bite of some kind?  Maybe a spider bite even.

thats what I was thinking, Sheba was bitten on the nose by an insect or spider & it looked pretty similar to that.  It went away after a couple days.

Well the finger looks different, less swelled, less red. I think he is getting better, but not yet Confused We can wait until monday to see the vet again, so Thor will have been one week with the antibiotics...

You can see the bigger pic here. I know the paw is dirty, but he had enough with the soaking and the pic. Maybe after dinner he will let me...

Hey Thor, big smooches sent from Talus...

I hope your toe gets better soon...
I think it's probably a reaction to something...Polysporin works wonders..

How's he looking today?  Hope its still getting better.

The bulge is half of the size than the last picture and today Thor didn't mind at all DH and me touching it. So, I think it doesn't hurt or Thor is just the sweetest Confused

The antibiotics ended this morning... I think he doesn't need to see the vet. It was really good to stop going to the river!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh poor Thor, I just saw this but am glad to see he is better now.  I think it was a spider bite, they can really make some sores!  I just don't understand the Vet and River thing, the River water is so dirty...    I know I am human but one time when I was young and under the influence I stepped on a bottle that broke under my foot.  I didn't have a huge or bad cut but I had a cut.  My friends and I decided to soak my foot in the River, two days later my foot was swollen and so infected and my doctor told me that putting my foot in that water caused a server infection in my bone.  Anyway, I would keep him from the River until the sore is closed and healed, JMHO.

    • Gold Top Dog

I think the use of the river was to cool it rather than to clean it.  From what I can see there was no open wound.  Right?  So the river would be the equivilent of icing it.  Likely the vet just thought you would not be able to make Thor soak his paw in a bowl of ice water like a normal dog, due to his size.  Just assuming from the rough treatment he recieved at the vet.  Stereotypical.  The river probably was easier though, except for having to go there of course.

Well, the bulge looks smaller but it is still there... Hopefully it will dissappear Confused I'm very impatient, as you can guess.

Yesterday we went to a tiny creek, were Thor stand for a while in the cold water... thinking I would be pleased Smile which I was, he is so cute doing anything I ask him to!

The soaking in warm water continues, something has to work!
