soft training treats for dog with sensitive stomac? (jm)

so, i am starting an obedience class end of septemper with moca. that's right, i found a trainer! this is her first training class, so i have no idea how she is. anyhow, i am just taking it for socialization, working on moca's attention under distractions and for fun!

i already bought her a new collar and leash! pink with flowers on! it's so cute! will post pictures when the time comes.

anyhow, the trainer asked us to prepare 100 tiny soft training treats. now i dont usually train moca with treats, cause generally she goes so nutso she can't concentrate, and i told that to the trainer as well. but after talking to her, i agreed that i will give it a try, so she can see what i am talking about, and if necessary i discontinue the treats. but yeah, i do have to prepare treats for our first session at the very least, so i need suggestions!

i know what a dog is sensitive to can vary for individual dogs, but i am just looking for suggestions on stuff that's easy on the tummy. i dont feel like potentially dealing with diahrria every week, ya know...

    any suggestions?

Hot dogs. Lol. I sometimes use raw hot dog pennies. They're soft and you can cut them to any size you want.

Maze has developed a sensitve stomach as well and hot dogs are easy on her tummy. As well as cheese.

Dance has a pretty sensitive stomach, so I just use pieces of boiled chicken for training treats if I'm using treats.

Harry has a sensitive stomach, and I also use hot dogs for training treats (made with all chicken meat).  I just cut them up real small, and you can put the leftovers in a baggie in the fridge and they'll last for a few days.  They've never given him any issues, and he absolutely luuuuuuves them.  When I pull the baggie out of the fridge to start a training session, he gets really excited!

Some people in the puppy class I did with Harry also used small pieces of cooked chicken, again, cut up real small.

Teensy bits of meat or goat cheese, here. Emma can eat redbarn rolls, too.

Caleb's favorite training treat is something I came up with one day that I call pumpkin brownies.  They're a bigger hit than the liver brownies I've made for years.  They're real easy to make, too:  15 oz canned pumpkin, 4 cups oatmeal, spread out on a cookie sheet, bake at 250 for about an hour.  After they're cooled, I cut them into hunks about the size of a quart zip lock bag, put a piece of waxed paper between them and freeze what I'm not going to use in the next few days.

Woobie's the weirdo.  He gets diarrhea on all brands of hot dog including the fat free ones and is sensitive to chicken also.  He did pretty well on meatballs I made with a mixture of ground turkey, canned salmon, oatmeal, an egg and cornmeal as well as some ground ginger included for good stomach calming measure.  I baked the tiny meatballs and then cut them even smaller.  We had a session where we worked with the other students' dogs and their dogs went nuts for them as well and everyone wanted the recipe.  They worked well for Indie's tender tummy too.

ok, thanks guys! i'm gonna give the hot dogs a try. i guess i could just feed her one hot dog and see what happens. i am TRYING to avoid to have to make something, lol... if that doesnt work, i'll try boiled chicken... Big Smile

    i'm so excited!!!!!

I love freeze dried Chicken for tender tummies... it does not cause issues and it Does give high reward.  I get them at the local Pet Sense for about 8.00 a bag  at shows for a bit more.  It does not make a mess, does not crumble easily and if you forget a piece in your pocket ???   Your dry cleaner is not freaked out.

While Liver is and always will be my first choice it can tear up a digestive system not used to organ meat.  If I am working our Big Boy I use a disgusting treat.... so I will not go there except pm. But OMG the show stacks I get using it!!

Yep it is almost 2 am but we leave for the nationals today !!    We are driving from the Gulf Coast of Alabama up to Gettysburg Pennsylvannia, will take us about 2 days to get there with easy driving.  I am soooo amped over going I just can't sleep.  I have to get some tests done this morning  at the cardiologists but after them I am good to go.  If I am really lucky we will stop and see a dear friend on the way home. She lives in my dream home.  I rarely covet that which I do not own but I love her house. It was built about 70 years ago.  We are taking 4 dogs and my 4 year old Grand daughter, Ceattle. I have a new camera and puppy folks coming from all over.  One couple are coming in from NYC to pick up her boy and the puppy they bought him for his birthday so my kennel will go down to only 6 dogs.  another puppy owner is flying out from California  to hang out and play at the nats........ This is the last year Ceattle can come since she will be in school next year. I would Take Ali-boo-boo too but she is only recently "housebroke" She is 3 years old.

I LOVE the nationals... so many Ridgebacks and RR freaks, so many great baskets for fund raisers   Bob will be buying me my Christmas gift there ... hee hee hee  A chance to buy some books by an English author called Bwana The Bwave and Bwana the Bwillant   ... just too cool for simple words .  It is being held at Gettysburg next to the Battlefield , a most important moment in American History.  This is such a win win even if I do not make the cut ( I do not think the judge will be into my boy , he really isn't his type) , there is Soooooooooooo much more , fund raising for H&G or Rescue ,  going to seminars and watching some amazing dogs work..... I am sooooo ready to be blissed out ...If I was a cat you could hear me purring in China!!

    Big hugs

tortellini cooked only half the amount of time.  You can store for a couple of days in the fridge, a week or more in the freezer.  Break into small pieces (or bite into pieces which is what I often do).  Cheerios sprayed with Pam and sprinkled with parm. cheese.

Liver can be too much, I have had dogs in my classes that had pancreitits (sp) flair up for the first time after liver.  As to hot dogs, I micro wave them to remove some of the fat.  Nickel width slices, layered in paper towels and micro waved about 3 minutes, then 30 seconds each time until dark in color and just slightly flexible.  Keep up to two weeks in the fridge.  I also like the freeze dried chicken cubes and freeze dried lamb lung.  Really low in fat.  Get the pre done pieces already cut to bite size.  The full size pieces of lung are very difficult to break.  If you want a source of a number of really good treats pre done, send me a pm for a link.

Zukes Minis are a really handy training treat, as they already come in a tidy little package and there is no work involved.  They aren't the highest on the motivational scale for either of my boys, though.

Right now the treat of choice is cut up pieces from a Natural Balance food roll (beef, currently).  It looks like a big roll of sausage and you just slice it up and cut it into little squares -- works perfectly and I haven't seen any stomach upset from anyone (and we go through a bit of it in a training session).

At agility trials I use freeze dried liver treats -- but I have noticed that the dogs get pretty loose at the end of the day.  Don't know if it's the liver, the excitement of the trial or both.
