I used Cleo as a test subject and yes, she did yawn when I did! I can only vote once but I'll post the other dogs reactions, later.

Cheyanne yawned but Lillie and Kujo didnt. Lillie just wanted to play. And Kujo barked at me. I tried Cheyanne again and she did it again.

I've done this for a while as a calming signal to Woobie after reading the book by that woman whose name I can neither spell nor pronounce.  He yawns back but looks at me like I'm crazy too.  Big Smile   It does seem to help him relax.... a tiny bit.

Maze looks at me like I'm nuts but she does yawn when I yawn.  Sometimes she'll get this look like she was caught completely off guard by the yawn. Lol.

Yes. Astra's the only one that doesn't yawn back at me when I yawn. She just gives me a head tilt and air licks.

I tried it on Casey (I've tried before) he was laying in bed - with his head up. I yawned, he looked at me and laid his head down...... not sure what that's about!

We tried this at the shelter I used to work for (me and another dog walker) it really does have a slight affect on high stress dogs - in high stress situations. We had a dog that would go NUTS (biting hard, leash tugging, lunging, etc.) when he'd get taken out of his kennel. So we would sit in front of his door - so he could't get out and yawn at him. He calmed down! It's really neat to see.

There's a book called "Calming Signals" but I don't remember who it's by that is supposed to be really good. I'll try to look it up.

I just tried it, and no, he did not yawn.  I was down at his level.  He sniffed the air and then tried to lick my mouth.

Yup... that's what Onyx did to. Maybe I should have stood up to do it.  She just bounced up at me to see if something was in my mouth for her...uh...cause often I feed her out of my own mouth?HmmIck!

I'll try it with Crusher later.

I think you are both referring to Turid Rugaas.  I can spell her name, but I have no idea how to pronounce it. Smile

Speaking of calming signals, 3girls -- licking is supposed to be another calming signal.  So I think Astra is responding, just in her own way. Wink
