I tried it on Casey (I've tried before) he was laying in bed - with his head up. I yawned, he looked at me and laid his head down...... not sure what that's about!
We tried this at the shelter I used to work for (me and another dog walker) it really does have a slight affect on high stress dogs - in high stress situations. We had a dog that would go NUTS (biting hard, leash tugging, lunging, etc.) when he'd get taken out of his kennel. So we would sit in front of his door - so he could't get out and yawn at him. He calmed down! It's really neat to see.
There's a book called "Calming Signals" but I don't remember who it's by that is supposed to be really good. I'll try to look it up.
