Louisville, Ky.....................

    Louisville, Ky.....................

Is a mess. We had sustained winds of 50 plus for over an hour yesturday. The damage through out town is unbelievable. Trees have been shredded, the golf course for the Ryders Cup had some damage as well.

250k people are without power, I am one of them. Our power has been off since 12:30pm yesturday afternoon. There is some cosmic joke going on because there is power at work....drat!

At one point last night they said that there were more people without power than there was when the the tornado touched down in 1974. That is pretty dramatic.

Now, I have no idea how long before I get power since im in one of the hardest hit area's, I will check in from work when I can. Right now the count is at least another day and up to one week.

I checked my freezer this morning, if you need me you will find me running between the grill and the oven.

    Bummer!

Oh...I'm so sorry.  I really do understand though. After those winds left your place,,,they came to Cleveland.

We were lucky that the Cherry Tree that got broken is still kind of attached at the back and just bending down to the ground...only the leaves touching our deck instead of the whole tree landing on it.   Another tree a few feet away it ripped off also.   My tomato plants have pretty much no tomatoes left on them...they were all blown off. Thank goodness our electricity was only off for a few hours......     My husband was at his golf outing yesterday and on the way home had to keep turning to go other ways because of fallen trees and wires.

Thank goodness it started here later because my work place took us on a brunch cruise on the Ohio river and it was windy but very nice and partly sunny.... and the water was pretty calm.  It all started not long after I got home about 2:30.  By about 10 PM our electricty was back on. I live in a development where the electrical wires are all underground...something big must have been knocked out for a while.

My husband has tickets to go to the Ryder Cup....so he will be hoping the damage there isnt' enough to cancel it.

The aftermath is such a hard thing -- and being without power -- that usually means no hot showers (maybe no water at all if you don't have city water) and living out of cans.  Will keep you in my thots and prayers -- take care!

Thank you all, currently trying to find a way to salvage the high end meats in my freezer. There are places with ice still open.

I do have hot water and my stove/oven works.

There is NO COFFEE.....my poor husband cannot live without coffee, so I have to bring some home.

We do camp so we have camping gear, and we will be ok weather wise, cool and no rain.

Just talked to my boss, or one of them, they are also without power and have been, they are coming to the office to shave and get ready for patients. He just heard one report that is not good, Louisville just sent crews to Texas to help with repairs, so we are short.

It was so bad the airport was closed for a bit yesturday.

Sigh...........anyone want to come for a bbq? I have chicken, ham, turkey, ribs............

    Dyan,

One of my bosses was suppose to walk the course this morning, he is a volunteer for the event. He is going to pass today. From what I understand they lost some flags, the tents, tables and chairs where blown about and I am sure there is alot of tree damage, every tree in town has to have suffered some damage.

There was a report that one of the bridges in another county suffered structural damage from the winds if anyone wants an idea of how bad it was.

    It was just nasty..................

When your freezer loses power, have a BBQ.  Well that's a new twist on 'when the world gives you lemons' LOL, sorry, lame I know, but that's the first thought that hit me.

I got a text from my friend in Paducah (sp?) and she said her yard is a mess and her fence got destroyed.  She tried to send me a pic but my phone wouldn't let me see it.

I hope you can get power back quickly.

    ((((hugs)))) for all those affected.

Dawn, i was going to PM you today. We had some damage in lexington, but nothing too serious. This morning the news said that we had wind gusts up to 55 mph, but you all had them up to 74 mph!

Glad to hear you're okay, but that really sucks that you all were without power so long

I woke up yesterday and it was nice and sunny. 1 hour later it was cloudy and raining. But the wind was blowing so fast the rain never hit the ground. We have little branches and leaves everywhere. The trees were making awful groaning noises. I was just waiting for one to fall on the house. Thank goodness that never happened.

Samantha wanted to fly her kite but the wind was blowing everywhere that the kite wouldnt stay up. I could understand why the airport was closed. I know I wouldnt have wanted to be on an airplane with the way the wind was.

Glad you are ok. We're on our way to your BBQ.

Well, we still have no power, and the estimates from the electric company are grim.

    10-14 days.

I managed to get a few pieces of very high end meat to a friends daughters house, but I still have alot to cook tonight, for the rest of the time we are eating out of boxes and making do as pioneers.

As least we both like camping, we have a radio, he has a light to read by and we will be able to make coffee by strainer,...........

10-14 days?!?! OMG, i could never do that.

    Oh my.....

This is from our  WKYC TV

Hurricane-force winds of up to 78 mph blew through Ohio on Sunday, causing damage in 84 of the state's 88 counties. At least four people who were hit by toppled trees or branches were killed.

Thanks for the golf course report...I will report to my husband. He said that the people from the course promised by the time it starts on Tues (???) no one will know that there was any damage.

For me..... I was trying to "save" some tomatoes...and was scared to death to go back there becasue the trees were blowing so hard. I kept watching them from inside...hoping my house would not get hit....those trees are very old!

...........anyone want to come for a bbq? I have chicken, ham, turkey, ribs

Oh yeah! I'm all about barbecue. So is Shadow. And DW. Shadow will eat about one steak at a time.

The first weekend we had him (Labor Day 2004), we got him from friends the night before, which had been a Saturday. So, here it was Sunday, with friends over. Tom and Jeanne, who's daughter Celina is our goddaughter. And our friend, Heath, who is currently back home in Manchester, England. Anyway, I'm cooking all kinds of stuff on the grill, including steaks I cut out of a roast. Tom is looking at one of DW's catalogs and sets his steak down on the coffee table. He is used to his cats, who don't care for human food. Shadow was only 24 inches to the shoulder at the time and the table is lower than that. Do the math. Shadow snuck a few glances, grabbed the steak, and trotted off. Tom was flabbergasted. I said, "Tom, he's a dog, not a cat."

So, Tom got another steak and this time, held on to it.

It is really crazy in OH too.  There are about 2 million without power overall (Duke power is one of the most impacted in SWO.  My town has spotty outages.  In my neighborhood there was literally a dividing line,  we were on the no power side.  We had hot baths though since we had a gas water heater.  We were told 4-7 days in part because so many crews were down south helping with hurricane recovery.  Those folks are on the way back and IN IL MI and PA headed here.... Surprise surprise my neighborhood had power by the time David and I got from deliverying the last of my dad's stuff to his new rehab apppartment (he just at a knee replacement at 90).    It seems if you lived in an older neighborhood with lovely tree stands you were more likely to be damaged (Out of power) than if you lived in a new location.  The new places with underground lines had no difficulty.  Lots of corn stands flattened.  Not sure what will happen with harvest since the humidity is quite high and it is laying on damp ground.  Beans seem ok.

We had IDIOTS out walking around the neighborhood looking at the damage, while the storm and winds were still at the 50+ mark.  I can not believe it.  Two older ladies missed getting hit by a tree by about 10-12 feet.  They just kept moseying along.

Thank you all for the thoughts. Now to good news/bad news.

As of 10pm last night and 7am this morning 200k people still have no power.

    The National Guard has arrived.

Ice is almost non exsistant. I found 5 bags someone was selling from their truck, they are making a killing, I bought them for $3 a bag.

I did not have to cook much last night, my wonderful neighbors took pity on my husband and fetched everything from the freezer and charged his phone. He went and helped clean up a couple of yards for some older neighbors.

Kord has been good, been on high alert and a bit growly with the extra foot traffic, but overall a good boy.

None of my gas stations where I get my morning coffee are open.

Schools here maybe closed all week.

There are still tons on tree's on roads.

Gas station lines are as long as an hour. One station had the nerve to charge 4.99, I heard they were reported though.

I spent the evening on the porch in the cold (yes cold) air with neighbors, all our candles turned on right on time with no problem.

Resturants are packed, and I mean 1 to 2 hour waits for sit down.

    Now for the good news......................

MY POWER IS ON AS OF 6:45am this morning..................thank goodness.

So now im giving away my ice to some of the people still without power.

That's good news, Dawn! I am amazed that a city as big as Louisville is having so much trouble with this. You'd think it wouldn't be that crazy...
