Rude dog owners

    • Gold Top Dog
To the ones who said it is not rude that is just ignorant. You, mean you will sit there and let your dog bark at some you do not know. That is just selfish.

If you already have your opinion set, then why ask for others' opinion? Or did people just not say what you wanted to hear? We have a variety of viewpoints and opinions here, so asking a question will get you a range of responses. Hopefully, you can appreciate the diversity and refrain from calling ignorant someone who disagrees with you.

No, i am saying it as if you will just sit there and let your dog bark at some one.

You do not know. And when YOU are ready for them to stop you will say stop. And not in the first 2 or 3 barks. You are just going to let it go on.

I know how some dogs get but sit there letting the dog do something is just rude. And saying it is ok to let it happen is just ignorant.

I did not say any one was ignorant. I said that is just ignorant.
    • Gold Top Dog
Yes, but you still suggested we didn't understand the question. And that IS rude.

    Leaving this thread now.

Well actually I really don't like being barked at. It kinda creeps me out, like a little kid staring at you. I'm like Dumdog, I will say something to the dog if the owner does nothing. Just a little "What's up, girl?" to let the dog know I'm not a threat. If my dog was to bark at someone, particularily a stranger, I would definately make him stop.

do some of ya'll even get what i am saying??

Do you think this is rude or is it just me.

Ok this was I think wednesday and I went to this vet for business. Ok so i am in the vet filling out some papper work. This guy walk in with his dog Cairn-Terrier if you must know. Ok he sits down and his dogs just starts barkeing at me. This goes on for about a minute or two he does nothing. Then he must have got sick of it and said stop.
Do you think this is rude? To sit there and let your dog bark at some one, until you are ready for them to stop. I mean even the people at the desk was looking at him.

To ask a question and then insult those with a different opinion isn't fair.

To answer your question:  It's just you.

Alot of owners just give up. Not condoning what he did, at all. Because he should of been more conscious of what his dog was barking at.

I have a barker, it's in her breed. It's terribly embarassing, and although we are working on being quiet, in a vets office it simply won't work. In the end, dogs bark in stressful places. So, it's just really not a big deal.

Maybe that other owner didn't know what to do about the barking.

I, as an owner, would command an incompatible behavior, which gets me in trouble here with some.[:D]

OK, mod hat on......enough already.  Name calling is against the forum rules.

Hat off, and on a personal note......I'm not wild about being barked at either.  But, dogs bark.  And at the vets, well, they tend to bark and act out more.  Since we can't know the situation, it's not fair to pass judgement.  Perhaps the dog was there to have something major done and the owner didn't want to scold him/her when the procedure could be life threatening.  Perhaps the dog needed to be euthed......there are soooo many potential reasons that the owner didn't immediately correct the dog, and only ONE of those would be that he just didn't give a spit and was rude.

There is some real merit to the old saying that before you judge someone, you must walk a mile in their shoes.

I guess I find dogs barking *at* me obnoxious and rude no matter where it is; now if the dog is just barking from anxiety at the vets or barking at the owner, then it's not a huge deal in that setting.

Part of my feelings on this do come from having a reactive dog who is nervous at the vets and thus is very likely to get more nervous and/or reactive if a dog is sitting there barking at her or me and/or staring, so I may have more strict limits than others.

IMO if your dog barks a lot out of anxiety/excitement at the vets, see if you can have them come and get you outside. I don't say this to be rude but my vet clinic's waiting area has concrete block walls and thus noise echos like crazy, not to mention the effect all that barking can have on the other animals in the waiting area and the stress the dog is obviously exhibiting itself.

No, but I see some rude behavior here.  They say dogs are a good judge of character.  I'm just sayin'.

You are at a veterinarian.  An animal doctor.  That's like saying it's rude when you walk into a pediatricians office and a child says hi to you.

I don't think there has ever been a time that dogs weren't barking when I have taken the dogs to the vet. Usually, mine are the quiet ones, which is surprising since they are both not big fans of going to the vet. I guess it doesn't bother me at the vet in the same way that although I don't like hearing kids scream in a store or somewhere, I can understand it more at the doctor. Most kids and animals at the doctor/vet are afraid because everytime they go, the best they get off with is usually a routine shot. Not to mention the times they have to go because they are sick. And they can't reason that it is for their own good and an unpleasant necessity, so it's really no surprise that they are afraid. For those reasons, it really doesn't bother me when dogs are barking at the vet's office.

If my dog is being obnoxious like that, I always apologize to the people in the vicinity. "Sorry, he's pretty overloaded right now, we're trying to work on calm behavior" or something like that.

But yes, at a vet's office, animals will be animals. It's like being upset if someone's dog pees on the floor. It happens - not fun, but it happens. If it's very disturbing, you can always take whatever it is you need to do outside until you're finished. If you're sitting in the park it's one thing, but at the vet's office, nobody really wants to be there anyways and it's stressful for all involved.

Doberman are bred to do that.  I'm thinking a dog like a Dachshund would do something like that, too.  I guess I'm confused if you wanted our opinion or commisseration, but it doesn't matter.  It was an unfortunate situation that you were barked at.  Here's hoping the next vet visit is more acceptable...

I am not saying they are ignorant. I am saying what they said is ignorant. It's ok to let your dog bark in some one face (and not correct them or say any to the person)? And no the old guy did not say anything.

I mean yes a sorry would be nice he said nothing. I do not care if a  kid says hi to me. But three barks is enough, and to sit there to let him continue to bark is just rude. Like I said nothing was said not even an excuse me.

Yea and being sarcastic really helps the situation.

To the ones who were mature about the situation I do apologize to you.

Maybe I'm missing something here ... but Miranadobe made two posts in this thread and I didn't see anything at all sarcastic in either one of them.
