In CA the polls show that record numbers of younger people (18 to 25), Hispanics and Blacks have registered to vote and that might be indicative of what's going on in the rest of the country.

You think what goes on in CA can indicate what's going on in the rest of the country? Stick out tongue

The same thing is happening on the other side of the country, in traditionally very Republican North Carolina.  The numbers of registered democrats (and unaffiliateds) has increased rather dramatically.  And a few BOE officials have been quoted as saying that a significant number of Republicans have changed their affiliation.

I think this is absolutely great.  There's nothing that drives me more nuts than listening to someone gripe about what's going on and then finding out they haven't voted in the last 10 years. Surprise Totally, totally OT here, but has anyone seen the pics of Cindy McCain in that outfit that cost $300K????  $280K were the 3 carat earrings and I thought "Holy Crap" - I've got a pair of 3 carat earrings that look a lot like that, but mine were $20 out of the Blair Catalog about 10 years ago. Big Smile

You should be running for office Joyce. We need someone who is fiscally conservative Yes

Now, now, aren't we above this as women in this day in age?  Aren't there more important issues than how much the clothes cost?  Are we concerned how much the suit the "first dude" of Alaska was wearing cost???  Stick out tongue Wink Angel

I watched a bit of the 9/3 episode of Jon Stewart's show last night - absolutely hilarious and so spot on in some cases.  You should all check it out.

(and sadly enough that was the first time I'd actually heard Palin speak - her presentation style leaves a LOT to be desired at least from the clips I saw; was not polished at all compared to most other politicians.)

Really? I thought she did a really impressive job. In fact, watching her speak scared me a lot, since I really, really don't like her, and want her to make everyone dislike her as much as I do. Stick out tongue I thought she did a tremendous job of speaking clearly, having a strong stage "presence," and making herself seem like "down home country folk" that the "common man" could relate to. Like the hockey mom / pit bull analogy. She's encouraging people to "like" her as a person, regardless of political views. I think she's pretty much become the face of the McCain campaign - McCain himself does *not* have a great stage presence, is kind of soft-spoken, kind of drab-looking, and basically isn't a stand out in a crowd kind of guy. Palin, on the other hand, is *much* more dynamic... maybe the McCain camp wasn't as stupid as I originally thought they were when they selected her.

Don't get me wrong, that doesn't make me like her any more (has anyone yet figured out her views on immigration or foreign policy yet? lol), but... I do respect her a little bit more as a more worthy opponent, I guess. Wink

I watched Jon Stewart last night too and it was absolutely hilarious. However, I thought she did a great job with her speech and so I'm not sure how they spun it like they did. I don't think they altered it, yet I found myself thinking "I don't remember that part" Huh?

I missed Jon Stewart, but I caught Bill Maher who is also one of my faves.  He was hysterical too, although highly offensive to many and totally politically incorrect, as usual. Smile

Seeing just small clips could've made her presentation style a bit different than in reality - I dunno I guess it was more about how she talked vs. what she said.  The words worked, but to me it just sounded like she was a little kid trying to prove herself in front of the school lol.  Hard to really explain unless you're in my head!

Of course that would make her seem more like your average person I suppose - guess I like my speakers more eloquent or something. :P

I know exactly what you mean. Smile That's one of the reasons I'm really looking forward to the debates.  I've heard Joe Biden speak before and I just don't see her coming out on top.

and have hunters travel into the areas in humane ways.  Fair hunting.  Humane hunting.  Hunting for the purpose of something other than pelts alone.

I don't think there is any way you can humanely shoot an animal, unless maybe it's a perfectly aimed shot to the head which almost never happens.  Although aerial hunting is pretty much as inhumane as it gets.

Well, since no one is going to *eat* the dead wolves, what would be the problem with tranquilizing them first and then dispatching them with some of the pink juice???  And, if a marksman is needed, then that's what's needed, but to stress an animal in that way, and then wound it, is the most vile form of cruelty.  Did anyone ever think that it would be far better if we learned to live with wildlife and let nature take its course???  Who elected humans the arbiter of which species should extinct themselves - in fact, we may be messing with a grand plan that will get us in the end. IMO, our irrational fears would be better extended to our own destruction of the environment.  Who knows, after we are gone, the wolves and the caribou might do just fine.

All good points.  And I'm not sure I buy the over population arguments in remote, unpopulated (by humans) areas.  But even if what they say is true, why not drop poisoned meat that would kill the wolves humanely or institute some birth control methods.  I know wolves in captivity receive it so they can't reproduce, that would keep the population under control but could be reversed later on.  I agree, I don't think messing with the natural order is a good idea.  But, I'm as green as Kermit the Frog.  I hated the idea and implementation of the pipeline when I lived there and most others I knew did as well.  The idea of a natural gas pipeline going in makes my blood run cold.   Can someone explain to my why our government is so willing to throw money at plans that rely on unrenewable sources, benefits big business, and so strongly opposes putting that same money into greener energy sources?  Can we not get a better public transportation system in?  Can we not give tax incentives to cities who put in electric bus lines, solar powered buildings, etc?  But I digress.......

I hope your little birdie is right, because just the thought of electing "McSame" with his health issues, having him croak during his first term and having Sarah Barracuda running the show is enough to make me want to leave the country. Sad
