I think only fools think it's 'easy' -- it takes work to maintain a relationship and have it *grow* (and both of you DO have to grow and not growing 'apart' is the big deal)
Little anniversaries can be important -- sometimes guys get bothered if they think they have to "buy something" for every anniversary -- but just plain telling each other you're thinking of "you" is huge.
Sometimes David and I will simply call each other with silly crap -- "Man, can you SEE that sunset? -- I'm seeing all oranges and purples!!" or "Man, David -- I'm following a new black Mazerati down Maitland Avenue -- how about that? You'll have to wait til your birthday, ok? Like ... er ... your 76th??" or he'll call me about the same kind of junk.
Have a good day -- slip him a "promise" under his plate or cup tonight -- maybe something you 'did' 5 years ago. Something NOT kids or dogs oriented ... nothing 'big' just "I forgot to tell you __________" or "I owe you a tongue kiss in the ear for letting me order Mexican last night!" or whatever.
