Cleaning dog dishes...what do you do?

I am too paranoid about ceramic pet dishes that are usually made in China.

Me too.  But, if you like ceramic there is a company called PetRageous that uses all FDA approved glaze.  And, they have many cute designs.

I made Pirate's bowl at one of those paint-it-yourself pottery places. I figured if it is good enough for people to eat/drink off of, it's good for him.

I used paper plates when Pirate was sick too, Lori.

    Willowchow,

Do you know of any online stores that sell PetRageous products? I tried their website, but they didn't have any info, it just said to 'check back soon'.

    TIA. :)

With my sweet Michelle I used a plastic bowl for her food - I washed it MAYBE once a week.   Sheesh - when I think about that now !   But Michelle never had any bowel or intestinal or infection issues, so I guess it was ok.

With Prancer her first bowls were from stamped "Made in China" - they lasted about 2 months before I took them away and started using my own handmade bowls.   Since Prancer is so small my ineptitude at throwing a bowl, and the resulting small offcenter size works out perfectly for her LOL.    I really do worry about the lead in stuff from China.   If I weren't making my own bowls I'd be using Corningware glass bowls - those are about the only thing I'd REALLY trust.

I'm very anal about cleaning their food bowls! They're rinsed out w/ soap & hot water after each meal (they eat 2x daily), and left to air dry. Once a week I wash them with a bleach/boiling water solution. Same for the water bowls. I rinse them with soap & hot water daily, and will rinse out with the boiling water at least 2x weekly. They look so clean, but when you soak the bowls in boiling water, so much food particles will come to the surface. Since I have multi dogs, I'm worried about diseases spreading through the water bowls if not kept clean enough ...
