Cleaning dog dishes...what do you do?

I usually rinse them out after their meal, and put them in the dishwasher about once a week.

I only ask because Buffy recently started dumping her dish all over the floor and eating it from there... I got an untippable bowl, and that helps.

Food dishes : soapy water, light scrubbing, good rinse and air drying in the sink after each meal (no dishwasher ever, DH would drop dead, lol).

Water dishes : rinsed at least once a day when we change the water, soapy water (or plain water with a few drops of bleach) and very good rinse once a week.

All their dishes but one no-spill water one are stainless-steel. That one plastic one is scrubbed more often because it has nooks and crannies.

I wash food bowls in the dishwasher after every meal. Water dishes are rinsed out every day (to get that slick feeling off of it, if you know what I'm referring to) and washed once a week.

Dishwasher.  The boys got raw meat yesterday because it was on clearance at Food Lion (I succumb to the temptation sometimes) and I used a mix of 50/50 bleach and water that I have in a spray bottle for cleaning to soak them just to be really careful.

I wash them after they eat with Dawn Foaming Dishsoap ( Love that stuff!!)   Rinse in hot water and air dry ...not because I want to but because the 3 grand daughters, the pixies from He** broke my dishwasher by melting not dishwasher safe tea set in it...... sigh

Umm I don't wash them much - like once every couple of months in the dishwasher.  The water bowl is rinsed each time I fill it and scrubbed out every few weeks.

I just feed plain kibble with yogurt in the morning.

Me too I only wash them maybe once a week, more often if they seem dirty or slimmy.  But I only feed kibble and they lick that pretty clean and the water bowl get rinse every time but not washed.

When they are washed it is usually in the sink with good hot soapy water using a papertowel - never use my sponges.  If there is room in the dishwasher and I am running it I will put them in there too.

I wash my DH and DS baseball caps in the dishwasher too!Big Smile Not with my dishes of course but their is not better way to wash them and keep there shape.  As a matter of fact I wash all kinds of things in the dishwasher - globes and knick knacks - if it can fit I will wash it in the dishwasher!Wink

Mine are washed after each meal, and when there's extra space in the dishwasher, they go in there. Emma eats raw, and Ena eats frozen Bil Jac (which might be raw, who knows what it is?). They both get "extras", too. Tonight, Ena had a tablespoon of yogurt, and Emma had a bite of sweet potato. Gooey, gross bowls.

Their dishes usually get washed once a week, sometimes twice. I also rinse them thoroughly after every meal though.

Mine only eat out of their bowls once or twice a week.  The rest of the time they eat on an old towel.  When meal time is done, DH or I toss the towels in the washing machine with some bleach.  The water bowl & bucket are washed twice a day.

I use ceramic bowls - water bowl gets cleaned/rinsed out and fresh water put in every a.m.  Food bowl gets a good hand scrubbing a couple of times a week and they both go in the dishwasher maybe once every couple of weeks.

I use stainless steel bowls.  They get hand-washed (dish detergent and hot water) after their supper, and put in the dishwasher after breakfast.  Water bowls get rinsed and re-filled twice a day.  Once a week I switch the bowls that are used for food/water (and at that time the current water bowl gets a thorough wash).

A towel?  That is the first I ever heard of that.  Why is that?  I think River would eat the towel too. LOL    Just curious...........

mine usually eat on mats. Which go in the wash. Dogs seem to prefer to eat raw meals lying down to gnaw on the bones, thus the towels/mats instead of bowls.

Kobi washes his own bowl after every meal with his tongue! I usually rinse it with soap and water x2/wk.

Funny little story: DH was sitting in the kitchen with a neighbor having coffee. I put out a plate of muffins for them. When the muffins were gone, DH took the plate and put it on the floor for Kobi to lick. I know some people get really grossed out with dogs licking plates, so I watching for the neighbors reaction. DH was making kind of a fuss about it and saying, "Good boy, Kobi!!! Good, Boy!" as he licked away. He definitely had the neighbors attention! Then without missing a beat, DH bent down, picked up the plate and put it back in the cupboard. Now that got a reaction!
