Welcome to Canada! I think you'll like calgary. We have so many dog parks, and lots of healthy pet food stores. Make sure you get yourself a Large Double Double from Tim Hortons!

You guys made my day, I really missed you!!

Today is DH's birthday and it began with Thor thumble and sending to the floor his new (my DH's) clock-radio ups...

I forgot to tell you that we are not living in Calgary but in a little lovely town called Black Diamond, 45 min. South of Calgary, and by the way, we don't have a Tim Horton's here Sad so no timbits yet! We have no car so it's not easy to go out from the town to the city, no buses and the only taxi driver is on vacation LOL But we manage to get new beds for Thor and the cats and also dishes and food.

Talking about food, we couldn't bring any food for the crew, the authorities will gave us a penalty and incinerate the food. My DH's boss bought some food but it was good just for the first meals, we went as soon as we could to some pet stores, realizing that no one had Eukanuba for Thor or urine health cat food from Hills. So we ended buying Royal Canin for Giant adult dogs and Techni CAL precision, health urine for the cats. The cats seem to be pretty happy with their food and they like it. Thor, in the other hand enjoys chewing the BIG chunks of food, but his poop says another story, his stomach doesn't hurt but the poop is soft and liquid. I also bought a box of Milkbone cookies and he has one large cookie a day, any ideas? We have tried to locate the vet in town, but not yet.

Hugs from us, I promise tomorrow more pics.

Milkbones give my boys liquid poop - there is so much fat in them.

I agree about the Milkbones....icky doo doo! Hope things firm up soon!

Are you guys getting a car soon or?

    • Gold Top Dog

Hope you guys settle in easily - it was good to hear from you :)

Black Diamond is a really, really nice place. You'll have to check out Chinook Windz pet store when you get a chance! The woman who owns it is very helpful, has excellent quality products and is extremely knowledgeable. She's very into dog nutrition/health and holistic/all natural ways. She's actually a Toller breeder (and who I hope to get my next dog from), which is how I know about her. :)

not saying they are a good thing but Milkbones don't bother the beast - he gets one a day (half at a time forced into a kong)

    • Gold Top Dog

Milkbones don't bother my crew either, and oddly enough they'll do just about anything for them.Hmm

Welcome to Canada!  I wonder if you can find some Acana or Orijen?  My dogs do well in them and its local food.

I was just in Black Diamond last week! Lol.  Maybe if you're still there next winter, I'll come by for a day visit with Maze. Lol.

Welcome to Canada!!  I make a trip once a year to Blackie so maybe we can meet up. Smile Oh yeah.. Have fun with the snow and random weather changes!

Delighted to hear that you are getting settled!  Fourteen hours is a lot of travel time.

I know it is not high priority right now, but don't forget to change the location in your profile to Canada.

    WOW!!

First of all: no more Milkbones for Thor!! DH told me this morning poop was looking better and I bought some bacon looking strips, from Purina. I'm not a Purina fan, but I have to say those strips and the Proplan one cookies never caused any problem for us and Thor loves them. Bummer for the two Milkbone boxes I have sitting in the shelf... I wish Bugsy and Crusher were my neighbours!!

Second: I have been in the pet store!! I bought some bags for Thor and a book I really wanted to have: The other end of the leash. Also we will go with Thor to give him a bath there... The lady is nice and their dogs are quiet and precious, I hope orangedog gets a puppy from her too!

Third: We need a car! LOL We were so dissapointed when we realized there is no bus here Sad We have been twice in Okotoks and once in Calgary but not enough to buy all the things we need and, of course, the idea is not get everybody tired of us in the third week. At least we bought beds for Thor and the cats and their food in a new Petland store in Okotoks, but everybody says in Calgary are better prices and more stores... I need an animal-lover friend.

And, oranges81, you were here!?!?!???? Please, please, please come back!! Of course we are going to meet and I can't wait to see your perfect mannered Maze Big Smile I can't wait for your visit and Candace's next year!!!

Finally: I changed my profile, thanks for pointing that!

You may be able to give them to a shelter if there is one nearby!

Lol.Yep! I go to Blackie and Okotoks once a year. I just got back on Monday so I'm not due to go again til next year.  *snickers at the perfect mannered* Maze is not perfect mannered but I apperciate the comment. I would love to meet Thor! And try not to steal him. Lol.

I'll have to make sure I do buy a proper kennel for Maze so I don't have an excuse not to bring her with me next year. Lol. Smile

There's a Pet Planet in Okotoks! It's brand new.. just opened I think. I'm not sure where it is, though. Havent been there besides driving through to High River. If you interested in the brands like Innova, Eagle Pack, Acana.. (etc).. pet planet is the the store.

I'm glad you got a chance to check out that store! Once you get a vehicle, and are able to come to Calgary every once in a while, I'd be more than happy to give you some advice as far as pet stores and other dog stuff goes. Maybe we can even meet somewhere sometime. I'm going to try to be a lot more active here, especially now that I'm not very busy anymore and will have more time for all of the different boards I belong to. :)
