The thing that really bugs me is both me and Jeremy have to work tomorrow, Friday, Monday Tuesday, and Wed...so....what are they going to do those days??? Hang around my house when nobody is here??

I usually take the liberty of planning activities for my guests on the days that I know that I have to work.  I have pre-purchased tickets to museums, & art galleries for them to visit while I am away.  I have bought a gift card to a restaurant that I thought that they might enjoy.  I've even made up a map of fun places that they might visit while they are staying with us.  I'll do almost anything to get them out of my house while I'm not home.

O-M-G....you guys are NOT going to believe what his Mom said to me last night at dinner....

everyone was ordering "junk food" and I ordered a garden salad with grilled chicken and light dressing.

His Mom: "How come you're eating so light?"
Me: "Well, I just started weight watchers, and I'm really trying to changes my eating habits."
    His Mom: "Oh"
Me: "Well, I lost a little over 10lbs already."
    His Mom: "Really? 10lbs?"
    Me: "Yup (very proudly)"
His Mom: "Wow, 10lbs, and you can't even tell."
    Me: Indifferent

............................Angry I've never been more angry and shocked. I didn't really talk at the rest of dinner, and when we came home I went in my bedroom (with Apollo), shut the door, and watched the Olympics. When I got up today they were already out to breakfast, so I went to my Moms.

OMG that is so mean! I can't believe she said that to you!

I'm sorry your in-laws are such a pain in the butt. I'll never understand why some people are the way they are. Your MIL was WAY out of line.

Congratulations to you for the weight you've lost, you should be very proud of yourself!

Really!  There are some people that are just wired to be totally incapable of opening their mouths without getting some sort of dig in. Congratulations on the loss ... and I'm sure it shows.  Could she be jealous??

    How. Freakin'.  RUDE!!! Angry

Look at it this way - you are clearly a better person than she is.  Relax.  She'll be gone soon.

I'm so sorry she said this.  Good for you on losing weight.

I've learned not to tell my MIL about accomplishments in that area.  I told her a few weeks ago that I got to buy a smaller pair of jeans (I was so excited I was practically jumping up and down) and she said "Well just wait, you'll get to be older and everything will go backwards and no matter what you do you'll just gain."    Uh...gee...thanks for encouragement.

Again, I'm so sorry she was rude to you.  You are doing a great job!

Thanks everyone for the encouraging posts! I *REALLY* appreciate it!! She just never has anything nice to say when it comes to me, no matter what it is. Ohhh well.

Right now they're out doing doG knows what....I don't really care. Next week cannot come fast enough!

Her remark sounded not simply mean and nasty but jealous!!    Crazy  Just remember when they are around YOU got the best of the family in DH and poor guy has to deal with them. But when they leave Poor FIL He has to live with that beast .... I Had my share of snarky in laws ,  just smile and take Apollo and know they are going to leave, they ARE going to leave !!  If you want to drive her NUTS just smile when ever she is around and ignore her nastiness, this drives toads and trolls nuts !!! Crazy

Hang in there and don't be afraid to tell us when she is a snot.... We are all on your side !  ( way to go on the weight loss !!!   Bravo)

Some MILs are just like that... no one is good enough for their son.  There's not a lot you can do excpet make sure you are undeserving of their cruel words!

Boy, did you ever hit the nail on the head! That's his Mom in a nut shell! He's their only boy (he has a sister) and they favor him. Me and his sister are very good friends and we've both talked about the way they treat him compared to the way they treat her and I.

    • Gold Top Dog

I also wonder if the mother is jealous of you and/or his sister.  You because you have "taken her baby away" (this could be subconscious even) and maybe his sister because she is young/pretty/smart/whatever.... has her life ahead of her, opportunities the mother never had, etc. etc.  Pity the woman, it might make her easier to bear.

    • Gold Top Dog

Could be. I've thought about jealousy too, and I'm sure that probably has something to do with the way she treats me and his sister.

His sister is very pretty, and very smart. She is divorced with a 9 year old, but when she got divorced she went out and bought her own house (very nice btw), works for a great company, and still has plenty of time for her daughter. His sister is pretty amazing.

Ok, so I had another "wow, I can't believe she just sad that" moment...

We were out at the mall doing some shopping. I had taken Apollo out at around 8:30am to 9:30am, and we left for the mall at 10:00am (got there at 11:00am)...Well, 4:30pm rollls around and I'm SICK and TIRED of walking around the same mall. I say, "We have to get going, Apollo needs to go out and eat" Plus, I really just missed my boy. I rarely leave him alone that long.

His Mom turns to me and says, "Stephanie you have that dog out an awful lot. You had him out last night and again this morning. What is he sick or something?" Me, "No he is not sick. Do you only go to the bathroom once a day? No. Neither does he." His Mom turns to Jeremy and rolls her eyes. Jeremy, "Mom, he really needs to go out, and anyway, we've been here long enough." Nobody talked in the car the entire hour ride home. BTW, his Mom bought NOTHING at the mall.
