Ben meets Maremmas for the first time (pic heavy)

It was a long, wet day.  Long drive, miserable weather, but worth it.  Ben met Maremmas for the first time and a good day was had by all.  We had 5 (I think) intact male Maremmas in one room and no fights, all these dogs are a credit to their owners and breeders.

Ben says hello to a pretty Maremma girl.  He liked her a lot.

Lui, my honourary Maremma for the day.  He's easily big enough to pull me over, but had impeccable manners when I walked him on the treasure hunt.

    Feeding time.

Possibly my favourite Maremma in the world.  This is the male who took BOB at Crufts this year.  He's a complete sweetheart.

     A few more..

A recent Italian import, a big boy, he's a little over two.

The above dog's "brother".  Males aren't often kept together but these two get along very well.

Maremmas ignoring the foolish antics behind them.  The male is the Crufts winner, a full body shot this time.

OK, ok, we'll look, what's going on?!  Ben playing with a 10 week old Tibetan Terrier.

    Back into default chill mode.

They're all so beautiful, Kate!  How did you like the other owners?

I'd met everyone before with the exception of our hosts.  They're all wonderful - friendly, welcoming, happy to meet people who appreciate their breed as much as they do.

What what fun for you!  Overall how did Ben seem with them and them him?  I love the second pic!

Wow, they are stunning!  Do any of them guard livestock?  Their coats look pristine!

Ben was great with them, particularly taken with that girl in the first pic.  They were all fine with him, the males had no issues which is a promising indication.  Obviously all dogs are different but for NONE of them to have issues with him is a good sign of the kinds of temperaments around right now.  He and Lui were very friendly, actually, which was nice.

None of the dogs in those particular pictures guard livestock, though there were a few there that did.  Most of them aren't bathed that often though, the coats stay naturally very clean.

What a great time!  I'm glad that Ben got along with the Maremmas.  It sounds like you had a terrific day!

I'm having so much fun with Min that I may have to get me a puppy to keep in the house.  Min would be miserable no matter how long I kept her, but she may be in here for as much as a month.  She's acclimated very well other than being constantly anxious to get back to the sheep.

I'm just dying over that male.  Oh my.  The Crufts judges put the right dog up there for sure.  The top of him looks like Tully but then he's got the right length of leg and depth of body.  Someday I need to get some really good side shots of the LGD crew.

Ironically, Min is the one here that would best fit in with that gang.  Now that she's filling out and her coat is getting better, she looks prettier every day.  That one female looks SO much like her.

Oh, no.  I just thought of a plan to get you a Maremma puppy.  This is terrible.  You may have no excuse when you hear this plan.  PM me or email (email preferable, the PMs drive me batty) if you are interested.

LOL I don't blame you!  Get one to keep the other house dogs in line.  Wink

That male is really incredible.  He has the most wonderful bone and his head is amazing.  He also has the most fantastic Mr. Cool temperament, nothing fazes him.  I'll email you a link to a pic of his sire, too.

I think Min has some very recent Italian lineage.  Let's trade plans, I may have an idea about how to find where she and Maia came from, and in fact based on looks I have some likely candidates.

Well you know how to get my attention, don't you!  I'm emailing you now.

Thanks for looking, everyone!  You're all very tolerant of my obsession.  LOL.
