Mindless Chatter - It's the weekend!

Mindless Chatter - It's the weekend!

Just stopped up at the office to get a few things done and I thought I'd drop in and start the thread.

What a busy weekend so far! We did sheep herding today, TDI exam and walked around the music festival. The dogs are wiped out! It's so nice.

Tomorrow I'm going to walk the dogs around the festival again. It's such good practice for them to learn how to behave among crowds. The only problem is that I can't walk 2 feet without being mobbed by people who want to pet them. Lily really needs that socialization though with people so that's ok too I guess.

I wish I could afford to hire a landscape company. My yard looks like crapola.

Hope everyone's weekend is going well!

Are you walking the dogs on blacktop/road type stuff?

We have a town festival every year in October and I like to take the dogs. Last year I got lectured about having my dogs on the blacktop. The lady even told me to take my shoes off and see how long I could stand/walk around on it. I will say it was a little warmer than usual last October but I would never do anything to hurt my dogs. I stayed on the sidewalks and grassy areas. I had a jug of cold water with me too for them. The food places around there even offered free water for dogs.

I dont think I will be taking them this year. Maybe Kujo since she sits in the stroller with Samantha.

I just got back from a walk. Took 3 hours!! We walked around the whole ridge which is about 8 miles. I also stopped and talked to a few people along the way and let Samantha walk a little bit here and there. The dogs are exhausted!!!

I have been teaching Lillie "hug". And she gave me one without me asking when we got home. This dog is as tall as me standing on 2 legs.

A train got derailed last night apparently and wiped out my internet along with the rest of the town and a couple of other towns.  Its up again finally.  Oddly, the cable was still on on the tv.  Anyway, I just thought I'd drop in and mention that I'm still pregnant.  Nothing yet.  Didn't want anyone to get excited or anything....like me....

Well, Candace, at least it's almost Monday!

I washed a whole bunch of laundry, and threw it all on the bed after I put the sheets in the wash. It's almost 10pm my time and I want to go to bed but I'm too lazy to fold the clothes so I can put the sheets on the bed. Ahrg. Pirate is glad I didn't move the clothes yet - he's sleeping on top of them. Strange dog.

See, I never understood the whole 'if the blacktop is too hot for *your* feet...' argument. Now, I don't regularly parade my dog around on blacktop, but paw pads are about a baskillion times tougher than skin, aren't they? Pirate will go and walk around on the patio, which is cement, by *choice* when it's too hot for my bare feet. I just hate when other people stick their nose in my business.

They finally got the new floor in the laundry room - the washer, dryer and fridge are back in place and running, the shelves are cleaned off and reorganized.  At last ... I have one totally clean, uncluttered room.  Unfortunately it's the laundry room, but that's better than no room I guess.

Yeah, I can't see going up to a stranger and telling them it's too hot for their dog unless it VERY obviously is. But I won't walk Cherokee on hot ground. I almost blistered my bare feet yesterday just standing in the road for like 15 seconds. I can't see how walking on that for longer wouldn't hurt a dog..but maybe it doesn't, I dunno.

Me neither! I've been known to carry my dog across blacktop :) but sheesh! MYOB!

My other pet peeve is when people come up to me (while I'm working) and say, 'it's too hot to be walking that dog!'. Sorry, I'm a *dog-walker*. I walk the dog when people tell me to. I carry a backpack with water and bowls, and strategically plan routes for shade, but I'm just doin' my job! Usually I have on a company tshirt/hat so I just have to smile and say something nice. Ahrg! MYOB!!!!!

In other news, there was a man-eating palmetto bug in my bathroom. I wish my brother was home from vacation, he's my bug-killer!! I had to go pee in the downstairs bathroom. Seriously, that thing was out for blood. I need to get new baits, but I have this weird fear about them ever since my childhood pup chewed one to get the peanut butter out of it. LOL, he was fine (the bait is like 99.9% PB and .1% poison), but still! Scarred me for life. Hmm, I think I'll google 'natural pest prevention' or something...

The Prednisone puppy is holding her own.  I can't say the same for me. . .I'm so tired, my eyes are all red.  Thank God it's Sunday.

People like to tell me whenever I have Aesop out that he must be sooo hot.  If we're heading in to the pet store for something, someone usually smiles and says 'ahh, taking him to be shaved?'  Ahh...noConfused

So, Candace, once you've had the baby, we're going to have to wait until you're back home and rested enough to hop onto a computer before any of us find out the baby has arrived.... right?  Or is there someone who is going to announce it for you?  (errr... shamefacedly anxious for baby news... I mean, .. TOESIES! lol Wink)

I miss my dogs - I fly back home today.  I even miss my parents dog who has been back up at their camp w/them since Thursday morning.  *sigh* - I am feeling a little sad to be flying back to AZ... wait, I am EXCITED to see SUN again (it's been raining and dreary here), and I can't wait to see how far the BF has gotten on the new house.  Of course I am anxious to smooch all over Gracie and give her all the hugs and kisses that my friends and family made me promise to give her "for them".  I just really like being around my friends, family, and favorite haunts.... I wish the weather had been better so I could drive up to the mountains for a summer hike.  Although, really, I wish Gracie was here with me to see all her pals, go for that hike, and get to see our old vet.  This was a much better place for her than AZ, I think.

*sigh* - I am just depressing myself thinking of all her friends and activities here and the lack of same in AZ.  Sad

My back yard looks like Beirut with all the trenches and craters dug by the dogs.  The front yard isn't too awful but it is growing so fast I can not keep up this year, Mowing The Lawn ..... We spent yesterday baking dog cookies.  My crew was out, I make them for my brother's old Irish Wolfhound and now the friends in Mississippi are getting a gift basket full for their Irish Wolfhounds. They are amazing folks runing a cremation service that is beyond kind and loving.

Today is the last day of Summer vacation !!    Yeah     3 of the 5 kids go back to school in the morning so I anticipate a battle getting them to go to sleep easily tonight.   How sweet it will be to have only 2 at home to entertain and occupy, I adore all of them but really they are more than a handful!!

and I get to work on dog nails with the new peticure that arrived last week ...I love my peticure , the dogs love it ... I may actually get show nails back before the end of the year !!

Alright, I'm going to stick my nose in yo bidness and you gonna like it. Actually, I'm going to teach you some basic physics. And then, you can get mad at me but I can't change the basic laws of physics.

Energy moves from hot to cold. Always. It's called the law of entropy. Your dogs, regardless of breed, eliminate heat through panting and the pads of their feet. If the blacktop is hotter than the internal temperature of the dog, the dog cannot then release heat through the pads, like they normally would. Maybe it won't exactly hurt their pads to walk on hot blacktop but they can't cool off as well, either. Contact temp on blacktop can be 130 to 140 F. Your dog's temp might be 100 F. Do the math.

Yeah, Shadow can walk on concrete and there are plenty of grass islands around, too. But some days are so hot he turns us around halfway through and I don't fight it.

One could get booties but that, too, will interfere with the dog getting rid of heat.

Nah, not mad. I understand the general concept :)

Cool (if you can pardon the pun).
