    rwbeagles-Lily SPLIT her tooth!

You all know, she jumped off a 10' springboard at the end of swimming class last night. She said "her tooth hurt" after and insisted it was loose. I wriggled it and to me...it's in there tight...it's not a permanent one tho.

Fast forward to this morning...still complaining and could not eat breakfast...well

You guys ready for this? I checked her this morning again...and you know what? The tooth was friggin SPLIT IN TWO! Unbelievable. It was SO not like that last night...

We just got back from the dentist and they pulled it...emergency tooth pull! CRAY-ZAY!

The doc said she busted it last night somehow from the concussion of hitting the waters surface...but it isn't always visible at first because overnight the area swells..pushing the halves apart.

I stayed with Lily...they gave her nitrous followed by novocaine..and YANKED the sucker and it came out in PIECES. There was a root piece left right at bone level that was super tricky...doc needed 3-4 instruments to get at it but she kept working and applied a LOT of side to side and then down force and it came out. HUGE gnarly bloody root. Lily amazes me...she was so GOOD. Followed every direction and was just so GOOD!

She is braver than it takes to jump off that board folks...she is amazing!

Oh my word!  So glad it is taken care of now and she doesn't have to get through the weekend with a split tooth!  What a brave little girl she is.  I guess she isn't as much of a drama queen as you thought!  She could have made a real stink about that one!  I know I would have and I am sure I have even more payback coming!

Wow!  Lily, you are an amazing and brave kid to let the dentist work on you like that!

Did the dentist say that her permanent tooth was affected?  Might be a good thing to go swimming again pretty soon.

Ds had to have 6 baby teeth pulled and his wisdom teeth pulled when he was little. The wisdom teeth broke while being pulled and they had to finagle them out. On the way home he wanted to stop at Burger King before his baseball game. If that was me, I would have just wanted to go home and get babied. Kids are so resilient.

For some reason my oldest and youngest teeth just don't want to fall out, the baby teeth end up getting pulled out.

Good for Lily, some kids are so afraid of the dentist it effects them all their life. She is amazing!!!

she said that the only issue with the permanent above might be a "bruise" or brownish spot that would be at the point of impact if the baby one got pushed up with enough force. We'll have to wait and see on that. I am just glad it "was" a baby tooth...saves a root canal and crown!

She's going by the pool tonight to collect her class finishing certificate and say thanks to her teacher...she said she doesn't want to jump off the big one ever again...but the little one is okay...LOL.

This dentist is really amazing. It's a child's practice only so they have so much there specialized for kids..quieter instruments and they hold their hands and speak in this wonderful calming tone. I wish "I" could go there! I HATES the dentist...lol. Elias was in the waiting room with my sister the whole time asking "can I go see the dentist too?"...he remembers the last time there was...fun...!

That is totally the way to go with kids in my opionion.  If not for the quieter equipment, just their patience and experience with kids and their fears helps a lot.  Although my brother hates the dentist, I never developed a fear of the dentist b/c we went to a child's dentist (I think it is periodontist maybe?).  He gave us laughing gas instead of a shot for cavities and was very good with kids.  I went to him until he told me he couldn't see me anymore which I am pretty sure was going on 20 years old!  same with my pediatrician.  lol!  I am not as crazy about my dentist now.  I am actually looking for another one.  I plan to take our daughter to the same dentist and pediatrician that I went to b/c I loved them both so much!

Ahhh...poor Lily but it sounds like she was very brave for the extraction. I'm really surprised that the tooth split from a dive into the water. I wonder how common that is??

I spent a few years working for a Pedodontist and yeah, most of the kids had to be dragged out of there cause they didn't want to leave. We had 2 video game machines in the waiting room and 2 or 3 pinball machines back in the treatment area.

I used to get sick every time I wen to the dentist. I am not kidding. The dentist was always prepared for me when I came in. I got to wear double the bibs things they put on you and my own personal sick pan. But when I got braces I got over the being sick thing. I guess anyone would when you have to see the orthodontist every month for 4 years!!

Wow Lily!  You're amazing!  First the swimming now this!  Way to Go!

I wish we had a dentist like that here.  Kale is still petrified of the dentist.  Taking him there sucks!

Poor Lily!  I'm thrilled to hear that she was so brave throughout the dentist visit.
