    rwbeagles-Proud Momma brag

so as some know Lily was doing swimming lessons this summer. She is finishing up her last set this week. She's been going every weekday for 30min sessions in a class of 3-4 kiddos.

I am really, REALLY impressed with all she's managed to learn in what amounts to one month of time. She barely was comfy putting her head under at first and clung to the wall most times.

But now? Now she is actually legitimately a swimmer...she has a front and back float, a front frestyle, backstroke for a good 10'...has learned to come up and breath while not stopping her stroke, and is just learning the backwards frog. She can jump in feet first and come back up in less than 6' of water...I am just amazed. He current instructor says she is quite fast and we should keep up with it because she is "built for swimming" whatever that means (tall and skinny? lol).

I have a large and this point, insurmountable fear of water...and I've legitimately almost drowned twice in my childhood...so this has been hard for me to watch...but also GOOD. I am now so incredibly more relaxed when we are in a pool with the kids. I know she can handle herself...and I can enjoy it. I formerly would be strung tight as a bow and frantically scream at my dh to "WATCH HIM/HER! SHE'S GOING UNDER!" at random times, for most of the time, no good reason.

Elias...has also benefitted from our weekend excursions to the pool for Lily to practice...he can hold his breath for a LONG time underwater and is completely comfy there. He has already started the floats with my husband...who can also relax more now knowing he doesn't have to watch both anymore. So he will also be learning to swim next summer...

It's been such a productive summer for us for a change...busy but productive. T ball has been a hoot and Elias has learned a lot from that simply being around other kids and adults and having to follow directions.

So that's my brag...thanks for letting me crow about my kiddos a bit!

Awesome!  My mom had us in lessons every summer at the local park pool (the cheap lessons).  I remember every summer having to get in that FREEZING pool at 9am, lol.  We'd come out turned blue with our teeth chattering.  I can't remember how many years we did it but by the end I had to dive, do all the strokes, float on my back and stomach, and tread water in the diving pool for 10 minutes.  Good thing since I fell off the dock when I was little.  Swimming lessons helped me never develop a fear of water.

OH and I forgot..their (adorable) instructor had them all jump off a SPRINGBOARD twice yesterday OMG!

The Lily I know wouldn't even think of such a thing in times past. She has gained a lot of confidence from these lessons...I am so proud of her. I did however have to look away the first time to NOT see that imaginary shark jump up and grab her off the board LMBO...phobias make NO sense, people. I did much better the second time..just focused on that cutey instructor. Wink

Way to go Lily and Eli!  And Mom too!

I adore swimming and I'm really glad that my parents encouraged me as a child.  My proudest moment as a young adult was winning a race against my cousins who were/are world ranked athletes.  It may be the only time in my life that I beat them at something.

I guess not passing our fears onto our children is an incredibly difficult thing to do.  You're an awesome Mom for avoiding that!

Hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do, right?  DevilWink

yes yes! Although I feel my age TERRIBLY there at the pool, LOL. When a hot guy calls you "m'am" it's just heart rending...LMBO.

Way to go Lily!  That is quite an accomplishment.

So Gina...was it 3 or 4...were they moving to fast in the pool for you to count?

    So Gina...was it 3 or 4...

Meaning the number of kiddos? LOL. 3 in the first session...4 in the next LOL. They're supposed to be 4 but one little gal in the first one FREAKED OUT....and her parents had her stop coming.

That is wonderful....learning to swim is very important!   Now it's your turn to take some adult lessons, Gina.  You can do it!

Learning to swim is great.  You should try some lessons.  Especially since I know Texas can get pretty hot in the summer and the pool is a great place to take your kids.  I have some great memories of going to the pool with my parents in the summer. (Including my sister at two years old running away from mom and jumping in the deep pool.  She knew how to keep herself up and was fine, but mom was about to have a heart attack.)

gina you are like my mom! she put us up for swimming lessons (thank GOD!-i was a WUSS as a kid!) but she also almost drowned on a river as a kid and has a phobia of swimming. i cant tell you how many times we have tried to teach her. she does just fine (and is in better shape than me anyhow), as long as she doesnt have to go into "horizontal" mode. lol... we've all just kinda accepted it by now (herself included). she hangs out in the kiddie pool, pretending she doesnt want to get her hair wet while us "kids" just have a good time! lol...

    WTG, Lily!

...Elias...has also benefitted from our weekend excursions to the pool for Lily to practice...he can hold his breath for a LONG time underwater and is completely comfy there...

I can so see Elias doing that. LOL

Good going Gina - two thirds of our planet is covered in water, so being competent and confident in the water is a great idea!!

Way to go Lily Big Smile

    • Gold Top Dog

That's fantastic, Gina ... and I understand your fear.  I'm terrified of water too and I never learned to swim.  Yet - here I am with a large kidney shaped hole in the backyard that holds 25,000 gallons of water. Indifferent I just hope if I ever fall in I'll have the presence of mind to walk to the shallow end and up the steps.
