    Recommendations for breed type?

    Hi all!

My cousin who lives near Hudson, WI recently asked for my help in researching and/or finding a new dog for their family.  They have a large house, four kids, and a few acres of land.  They also have a small mixed breed that I believe might be a rat terrier / BC mix.  I'll see if there is a pic I have to attach.  My cousin feels that Patch is way to attached to her and needs a friend, I think that she and the kids just really want another dog.  Big Smile

My cousin does not want a young puppy but maybe around 6 months old.  She does want a mixed breed or a rescue or pound dog.  She works part time in the evenings so the dogs have plenty of company.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe another collie mix of opposite gender. Most shelters have plenty of 'collie' mixes to choose from. :)

Honestly, since they are looking for a mixed breed/shelter rescue - Just go to the shelter! Bring Patches along, and ask the staff to direct them to what they are looking for.

Send them to petfinder.com and tell them to click away!

I 100% agree. I would tell them not to limit themselves and to just go see whats out there and what gets along best with their dog and children!

Maybe a mix of any of these.

    Beagle

    Bichon

    Retriever

    Setter

    Spaniel

That first photo is waaay too cute.

I would suggest trying a rescue that fosters because she'll have a better idea of the dog's personality and behavior with other dogs in a house (as opposed to shelter) situation. I'm sure there are lots of mixes that would work-----maybe better to look for an individual dog with the right temperment and activity level rather than a specific breed.

It looks like Patch gets along with GSPs...Wisconsin GSP Rescue has a one year old male available Wink   He's only 55 pounds right now      http://www.wgspr.com/index_files/Dogsforadoption.html

    LOL

While my cousin loves Monroe she thinks that Morrison is a wild child.  Mind you, she watched them for us when he was less than a year old and he was a wild child then.

She definitely wants something smaller than Patch so we can't help WGSPR out right now.  The Dad in the family still needs to be convinced, he is not a dog person but the kids are working on him.

I'll point her in the direction of petfinder...
