Is he a piggie??

    Is he a piggie??

So, for the third day in a row I come home to find the bottom cabinets open (where the cat food it stored) and Apollo's guilty face watching me as I clean up the spilled food.

Two days ago I came home and noticed one of the cabinets open, didn't think anything about so I shut it. Yesterday 3 cabinets were wide open and the top of the cat food container was off, I knew Apollo got into it. Today I duct taped the top of the cat food container, and the cabinets shut before I went out. Well, I came home and the tape was shredded, and I know Apollo probably had a field day eating the dry cat food!

He's never, ever done anything like this before and I've had Apollo for about a year and a half, and his diet hasn't changed recently (4c of canidae). What's going on here? Does he just love dry cat food all of a sudden??? Is he a piggie???

Well, I can't resist.  Look at your signature and there's the answer.  He just finally figured it all out.  LOL!

Dakota raids the cabinets when I leave for work. I just don't leave anything she can eat in the ones that she opens anymore. I don't think that your dog is hungry or anything. Dogs just like stuff they don't get all the time. Like cat food.

LOL! I mean, he LOVES to eat (typical Lab), and he knows his food times- if you don't feed him around his food times (9am and 5-6pm) he will bang his food bowl around, and eventually bring it to you. He loves his treats, but we cut back on them because he was getting cookies for everything/anything...he would get a cookie because he followed me into the kitchen! I know, my bad, but we've stopped that.

Too funny!  Gotta love those Labs and I do love 'em!

Get those child proof cabinet things. They are pretty cheap and worth it.

You gotta admire his determination. I imagine him watching you duct tape the cat food and thinking "ha ha ha, thats cute", LOL

He probably was thinking that too, he's so fresh, lol!!

We don't have knobs on the bottom cabinets, but I think we're going to have to install them to child proof them now!!

I feel for you! I can say that Kord ignores our food and the cats food most of the time, today was not one of those days.

I called my husband to let him know that I was going to be home later than usual because I needed to stop and get dog food and some other items. Said goodbye and hung up. Not 1 minute later my phone rings, it's the DH, he said whatever I do, not to foget that dog food, cause Kord just helped himself to the his piece of pineapple upside down cake.

Must have had a sweet tooth!

I've had to install the magnetic cabinet closures to our garbage bin cabinet and dog/cat food cabinets for exactly this reason.  The magnets are stronger than Monroe (they are pretty big).

Well hey, at least it wasn't the garbage. We were having an issue with Maggie figuring out she can knock over the garbage can or pop the lid and get the stuff on top, and she never did that before. We just bought a stainless steel one that has a foot press so she can't get into it anymore, but I still catch her checking it out to see what the trick to open it is. I think Apollo just found something new he could do that's fun while your gone!

They make child proof things that kind of 'hook' underneath, so no need for knobs. Or just put the cat food up higher!

I got NO sleep last night....

Apollo had the runs from eating the cat food Sad

I cannot wait until the day when we have a fenced in back yard! I had to leash walk the poor guy all over at midnight, at 2:30am, 4:15am, 5:30am, 7:00am, and then I just stayed up. BTW, ever try to clean up runny poop with a baggie? YUCK!!!

Cheyanne is has lab in her. And she is a terrific well behaved dog. But one thing she can not resist is cat food. The minute I turn my back to her she will go gobble it all up. I watched her one time and did notice she was nice enough to wait till the cats were finished eating before helping herself to the food. But I have to say she doesnt get into the cabniet to get to the food. She just cant seem to help herself no matter what if it's sitting there on the floor.

Must be the lab in them!!!

A lot of dogs really like cat food - apparently it has a lot of extra flavor/scent enhancers to entice those picky felines.

I'm guessing 1) Apollo gets bored when left by himself (do you leave stuff for him to do?)  2) Cabinets are too easy to open and need child-proof locks, and 3) he might be "feeling" hungry, even if he doesn't need extra nutrients, so I would either feed him twice a day (if you don't already) and/or feed him some "extras" like green beans that will keep him from getting fat but will fill up his tummy.

Cat food diarrhea is no fun, you have our sympathies :(

I don't know what his deal was those 3 days, because he's never done anything like that in the year and a half I've had him. I don't really leave him stuff like kongs or anything anymore, he has toys all around the house. He doesn't touch them (kongs) ever, I've tried canned dog food, peanut butter, yogurt- if he can't get it out right then and there he doesn't want it. He's a brat, I know. Also, I wasn't gone for a long period of time (no more than 2 hours) on any of the days he got "mischievous".

    I'm going to take a nap...lol!
