    Tropical Storm Edoaurd

I PROBABLY DID NOT SPELL THAT RIGHT, BUT AT ANY RATE, THERE IS A TROPICAL STORM OUT IN THE GULF AND THIS ONE APPEARS HEADED FOR THE UPPER TEXAS COAST.  IT CAME UP OUT OF NOWHERE LIKE BRET DID BACK IN '99.  I JUST CHECKED THE WEATHER STIE FRIDAY AND THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE GULF AT ALL, JUST WAY OUT IN THE ATLANTIC---WAY WAY OUT.  AND THOSE ONES ARE STILL OUT THERE, JUST LOWS, NOT EVEN DEPRESSIONS YET.    GEEZ. I HATE THIS ONES THAT COME UP OVER NIGHT.

I know! I'm praying it goes away or doesn't swing farther north - not that I would wish it on anyone else, I just don't want it here!

I've been checking the National Hurricane website 3 times a day. It wasn't there at noon yesterday, but by 6 they had a warning to watch the area.

I'm just praying the dang thing stays small!!! After Rita, I hate hurricane season! I so want farther away from the coast. :( :( :(

    Prayers that everyone stays safe!

DH & one of my brothers are on the way to Galveston to make sure that our beach house is secured.  I hadn't watched the news over the weekend, so I was shocked to hear about it this morning.

At least they are only projecting it to be a category one.

It kinda did just pop didn't it? I was online late last night at saw the warning on the Yahoo news page and was like...."what is wrong here...is my browser regurigitating old news?"

I hope it's not bad...and I hope all stay safe!

We still have the aftermath of Dolly in the form of B-52 bomer size mosquitoes.  We got by in this area with only a few owned trees,  limbs ad minor damage to  older roofs.  THEN CAME THE MOSQUITOES.   I have to make an Olympic speed dash from front door to car to get there with any blood left in my body.....and hope 50 of them suckers don't get in the car with me.

My one DIL runs 6 miles every morning, but hasn't been able to for a week.  Said even with spray on she gets bitten all over.  After her husband, my youngest son, contracted West nile Disease last summer, she is scared of being bitten at all.  luckily Randy was a big healthy former aathlete , but even so he was sick for weeks and weak as a kitten .

I see on the computer models they have moving towards central Texas as of this morning.  Guess we will just play the wait and see game.

EEP! I wonder if it'll bring rain here? I hope that it's not destructive and yet...brings us up North rain and cooler temps...

Sandra, try misting yourself with plain listerine.  We spent a week in Galveston a few weeks ago, & the mosquitos were huge.  One of the local shop owners recommended listerine, & it worked great.

Yeah, our mosquitos are BAD around here.  Great idea about misting with plain listerine...never heard that one before.  We are a big Skin So Soft user around here.

We are battoning down the hatches for Edouard; and we live 70 miles inland.  It is expected to make landfall around 7am tomorrow as a Cat 1 Hurricane.  Inland, we expect power outages, high winds and potential flooding.  We live in a flood prone area, so it is always nerve racking.  Nothing like you have Sandra, I'm sure.

But because we live in a flood prone area, we are always nervous with these types of storms.  DH bought a sump pump several years ago and it has been a Godsend.  It shoots flood waters back to the creek behind the house.  We always end up with a lake in the backyard and a river in the front though.  We have plenty of bottled water, plenty of food and candles.  DH is preparing the generator and getting batteries as precaution.  We have a plan in place for the animals, but we won't be leaving this time...I think.

Stay dry and stay afloat.  Everyone keep your fingers crossed it comes and goes quickly.  The worse thing is when it stalls.  Staying in one place for too long can be NO GOOD!

Back in '80 I think it was, a lady that worked with my Mom had a daughter & famil living down here inCorpus.  Allen was due to make a direct hit on Corpus, so the daughter & family came up to stay with Bessie & Bob in Austin.  Well, Corpus didn't get a direct hit and not a lot of damage.   HOWEVER, a tornado came down in Austin not a block form Bessie & Bob's home.  It actually hit the airport and did a lt of damgeto ivate ples nd hangars.  It alsodid a loto damage at the little league ball park where our boys played, got some homes, etc.  The daughtersad she would have been safer staying down here with Allen!

When I left for Hurricane Bret back in '99 it took me 7 hours to get the first 100 miles.  Even there places had boarded up windows.  Bret was one of those that went from nothing one day to a cat 3 in about 36 hours.  I didn't even know it was out there il we were told to leave.    Luckily it turned west and went in belo Corpus into one of the leat populated areas of Texas--the entire county almost, is a ranch.  And it was a very small 'cane.

I kept all my bottles and jugs of water, cans of meat, fruits, etc, etc that I got for Dolly.  Will keep them all summer.
