    Another First for Me! (sl2crmeg)

    First car wreck :(

I was driving my brother to a friend's house about 45 miles away, and unfortuantly most of the drive is pretty rural. At one point the state road we were on crosses a major highway, where there is mucho construction going on. One of the cone trucks lost a dozen of their cones in the middle of my lane - I didn't see them until too late. My passengers and I are OK - my neck and right knee are sore, and I'm sure I'll feel worse in the morning.

The car is a different story. The cones ripped my entire bumper off, and the quarter-panel on the passengers side is badly dented. I'll need a new headlight/blinker combo. BF's dad came out to wait for the wrecker with us and he said something about my CV joint being broken off, and my drive axle being snapped. Who knows what's wrong mechanically, I can't even imagine. There is a great possibility that tomorrow morning my insurance company will call it totaled, apparently.

My bro had his digital camera, luckily. We snapped some great pics before anyone moved anything.

Vibes for my neck and knee, please? I will add the pics as soon as my brother uploads them. Poor car :( :( :( Hopefully I'll get some sleep here soon - I'm super tired but way too jolted to sleep.

Oye!  Healing vibes to you and your passengers.

So, did the cones just drop off the truck in front of you a ways, or had they been there for a while?  yikes!  Sounds like the city, county, or the state (whomever was doing the construction) will be paying your insurance company...

They must have fallen off a while before - there wasn't any traffic that I was aware of. I didn't even know what I had hit until I got out of the car. It's actually a private company that dropped the cones - they have a contract with the state.

Ouch, ouch, ouch, my neck/back hurts! I'm going to BED!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh no!  Hope that you're feeling better soon.

Check with your insurance company and see if the company that dropped the cones is liable. I am glad you are OK!

Vibes for my neck and knee, please?

Please see a doctor ASAP.  You may need a neck support collar and muscle relaxants.

    Hope you heal up quickly!

{{{Megan}}}  I'm sorry about your car.  I think Janet's right, it wouldn't hurt to have Dr. just check you over, at least for peace of mind if nothing else.  Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, please go see a doctor!!!!  You don't know what could be wrong unless you go!

I am glad you are pretty well alright, but I hope you stop hurting!!  And definately check to see if the company is liable, I think they should be, talk to your insurance company about it

I will probably go to my Dr today, I'm still a little sore. I've had back problems when I was younger so hopefully this didn't re-do something that I've had fixed.

Oh yeah, the company with the cones is big-time liable. They told the officer last night that the cones were theirs, and I have their supervisor's number so I'll be in touch with him today. I'll post some pics of the car in a little bit, BF wants to go see it at the wrecker and we need to go talk to my insurance anyway.

Sucky part #102 of wrecking my car: I'm an *in-home petsitter*! Which means I drive to people's houses every single day. Luckily I'm off today, but I'll probably have to give away my work tomorrow since I'm car-less. Suckola.

Ugh, how awful! Hope you're feeling better soon... and not held liable for the damages!

wow Meg I am really glad that you are mostly OK - go to the doc! - but can totally commiserate!

Hopefully you will have a rental replacement by late today - good luck!

Megan!  I'm so sorry you're hurt.  PLEASE go to a Dr.  I've been in my share of accidents & things can creep up on you.  PLUS if the cone company is found to be liable, you want the Dr. bills for reimbursement.  Sending healing vibes & pappy kisses your way.

Megan, I think David and I *both* would have felt better last night if we'd gone to get you/meet you (folks, sometimes you meet THE Nicest folks on your dog-board and you wind up becoming really GOOD friends!!!).

***Definitely*** go to the doctor today -- because their insurance should pay for that for you!

ALSO, make sure they know that you need your car to do your job -- they should also pay for a rental for you until your car is fixed or it's settled.  I'm going to ask Andy, but I think I already know who he'd refer you to.  Since this has to do with a state contract, make sure you see an attorney.

You won't get much for your car because of its age, BUT you don't want to get shorted on being compensated and I know some darned good PI attorneys.   This isn't about getting rich -- not at all.  But when you are young and have an older car, it's really easy for them to look at you blankly and say "Oh well".

First 24 hours keep ice on whatever hurts.  Do you have any Traumeel?
