See, I've always thought of getting officially measured, but I'm really self conscious about people seeing me half naked.....so I suppose I have nobody to blame for my discomfort but myself....

Oh, I hear ya on this one .... loud and clear.  Just the thought of going into a store, taking my clothes off and letting a complete stranger come at me with a tape measure makes me Ick! I'll just put up with a bit of discomfort, thanks.

    Joyce

Why don't you just measure yourself?  Or have a relative or friend who you feel comfy with do it.... husnand, sister, mother, friend....

It's not hard.  If you get hold of a lingerie catalogue there is usually a guide in there of how to measure yourself, plus a conversion table.  In case tehre's any who don't know, you measure around your rib cage under your breasts and then you move the tape measure up and measure around the fullest part of your breast.  The first measurement is your number, then the difference between the two becomes the letter.

A poorly fitting bra is uncomfortable, but it also doesn't do your boobs any favours in the long run IMO... plus if you are, er, well endowed, lack of proper support could lead to (or contribute to) back problems.  If you have a properly fitted bra clothes will fit better too.

If nothing else you can always try on bras before you buy.... I think it's best to buy from lingerie shops or catalogues.  I find that I am one size in one shop, but a slightly different size somewhere else, just like with clothes.  Your nipple should be in the centre of the cup and the bit in the middle at the front should sit between your breasts.... the straps shouldn't dig into your skin or ride up at the back Smile

I'd buy from a lingerie shop, but I blush even thinking about going into one...

I don't blush going in to one. But I get REALLY nervous and it's like my brain runs away. I'm left there standing going "Ummm...." Lol. So in April DH and I are going shopping so I can't run away. Tongue Tied

See, being with someone makes it MORE embarrassing for me.  I hate asking to see things because I'm not a pretty, skinny blonde :-p

Neither am I. In fact I'm far from it. Smile If you go with your BF he'd be able to add suggestions that he likes and you can see if you're comfortable or not and say so and maybe come up with a comprise you both like. I still can't wear some of the stuff DH likes but I made a comprise and found a halloween cosutme that worked. And I still don't like French Maids. Lol. Wink

    Awww, that's a shame, you're missing a trick there!

There used to be this REALLY nice lingerie shop near me, it wasn't embarassing going in there because there was rarely any other customers!  It was really small and there would usually just be one member of staff and it was usually the same lady who was VERY nice and expert at putting you at ease.  There would just be a few items on display and she would ask what sort of thing you were looking for and what size you are and then go and find stuff she thought you might like.  And then you tried it all on in this big comfy changing room and she would wait out in the front for you and ask you what you thought of it.... nothing was too much trouble for her.  It was more expensive than anywhere else I'd been but the quality was gorgeous and she would often give a great discount if you got the matching bra and undies together.  I bought my bikini from there and I am ***NOT*** a person comfortable in a bikini but I've worn this one a lot.

I wish I had someplace here like that! All the lingerie shops around here are HORRIBLE. The staff are snotty and if you're not the perfect size they want you out of there as fast as possible. Which is why I only go lingerie shopping once a year when I go in to the city.

Yeah, I don't really even know what my size IS anymore.  I THINK I'm a 1x for most stuff now (More for my boobs than anything else...)

PSH, I *am* a pretty, skinny blonde (so they say) and trust me, it's just as embarrassing.

Jackie, you have no reason to blush.  Before you walk in, take a deep breath, & tell yourself "I'm going to find some really cute things in here."  Then walk in & get to it.

FWIW, I try not to lingere shop with DH.  He usually starts acting silly (think wearing a lacy thong on his head) & I start laughing uncontrollably.  I've learned that it's much easier to take a girlfriend with me.

Why *must* they put the underpants on their heads? Really?! BF is fascinated with my bras. He put one over his head once and goes, 'I'm the SWISS MISS!' ROFL.

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh thank god! I thought I was alone in my suffering of having an bra wearing DH. Lol! I HATE doing laundry when he's around cuz he'll grab my bra, put it on his head then proceed to dance around the room with the dog..

NOW! If you want embarrassing, go shopping with my dad...*shudder*

    'I'm the SWISS MISS!'

    LMAO!!!!  That is hilarious!

DH has put bras on his head as well, although he has gotten out of that habit as of late.  I think that he knew he had gone wrong after he put the cups over his eyes, & said "I didn't realize these were so small.  They are like little, tiny eye patches."  He had nothing to do with me, my underpants, or my "little, tiny eyepatches" for about a week after that comment.

    • Gold Top Dog

*dies laughing* Alex used to put it on his head and make it so it only covered one eye. He used to claim he was a pirate but stopped after I stated if he's a pirate then he's got poor depth persepsion and I don't deal with guys who can't aim their sword right. In jest of course but it shut him up and got him to stop playing pirate with my bras.. Still dances with them on his head thou..
