I went to the lake with my friend who has 2 aussies who love to swim. Woobie has been getting braver each time we go trying to follow them and today he SWAM!!! I'm so proud! Once he got it, he was paddling around like a pro! He wouldn't leave the shoreline as far as the aussies, but he was out there doing little figure 8s and retrieving his frisbee and ACTUALLY SWIMMING!!! I'm such a proud mama I could bust!!! 
Then, Indie had to go and be a butthead the whole time. I've been working on his recall around distractions, in different environments, etc. We were hoping that because he showed such interest in Bunny, the mini aussie, he might follow her into the water. Nope. He just wanted to chase and bite butts. 
He'd been doing REALLY well on that habit at the dog park, but I'm guessing it was location specific in his mind. Recall and not gripping has been proofed at the dog park, but not anywhere else with dogs. So, he reverted to his default behavior. Back to starting all over again and proofing that out. He was also doing well dragging the lead and staying near me while the dogs were in the water (with the help of turkey meatballs in my fanny pack!). If they were on shore, I had to hold onto him so he wouldn't bootie bite. Down the shoreline was a man fishing with his small dachsund tied to one of the boats. She started excitedly barking at the dogs in the water and before I knew what was happening, there was a puff of smoke where my dog had been and he was down the shore chasing the poor little dog in circles! 
So, I'm running down there, apologizing my head off, getting tangled in his fishing line, apologizing some more, trying to grab my circling dog. I was mortified.
Lesson learned, 50 foot line, tethered to me, proof the recall in a ton of different locations and take the dogs separately. Thankfully, Woobie likes to stay with the aussies and my friend grabbed his lead which he also drags so I could concentrate on Indie. Why is it always Good Dog/ Bad Dog? When one is doing great, the other is being impossible and vice versa!
