I recently got to meet another kiwi. He owns the company from whom we're renting storage containers. I believe he said he was from the North Island. He mentioned a couple of mean bars to stay out of. We talked about the Maori and Tongans (referencing things I read in a story, once. My favorite author, Heinlein, had a character called Friday who lived for a while in Christchurch. The family she married into evidently had a problem with them. Which was totally alien to the Friday, who was a true heinz 57 of ethnicities. Friday was a genetically engineered human with ancestors who were white, black, american native and asian. She had a tanned skin tone with blonde hair. But I digress.)
I guess he came here for different business opportunities. From Heinlein and other's description, including another NZ guy I knew years ago, it seems to be paradise down there and I can only imagine a good reason for giving it up.
ETA:
I almost forgot, one of my college mates from 1984. She was also from New Zealand and I just loved her accent, a sort of sing-song lilt. A crazy sense of humor, too.
