Am I wasting my vacation?

    Am I wasting my vacation?

I have been off work since noon last Friday.  On Friday afternoon I flew home for a weekend visit and came back on Monday since DH had to go out of town for work.  Since Monday I have:

    • slept in, a lot
    • almost stuck to my diet...almost
    • read three of my favourite books
    • went to see Dark Knight during a matinee
    • watched a lot of tv and movies
    • taken a short hike with a swimming stop with the boys each day  (it's hot)

I meant to do a lot of gardening, painting, cleaning and generally productive stuf.  I haven't done any of that but I do feel relaxed.

Is it just the Irish in me that is making me feel guilty about not doing stuff or should I relax and let it roll?

Keep in mind that I do have a couple more weeks vacation that I intend to spend with DH.  So, am I wasting my vacation?

    One word:

    NO

Nope -- 'resting' is important -- it makes you more productive ... LATER.

I think what you've spent your time doing sounds like heaven to me, but I understand your thoughts. I get into the same mindset (and I'm Italian Big Smile). I try to myself to go with the flow and not try to make plans. I even do it on the weekends. I'll go to sleep Friday night thinking of all the things I want/need to do and it exhausts me just thinking about it all. It's nice to just let it all go once in awhile and enjoy the moment(s) Big Smile

I think not!  I did basically the exact same thing a few weeks ago and felt more rested and relaxed than I usually do after a vacation.

     In a word no!

When we went away the other weekend we just hung around the cabin, watching movies, went in the hottub, read books, took B to the river and we did have one longish hike but that was about it for 3 days.  Haven't done that in goodness knows how long - did my best to be guilt free and wound up really enjoying it.

So just relax and recharge the batteries - vacations should be enjoyed!

    "Wasting vacation"??????  No way!

Vacations are made for doing as much or as little as you want.  Just enjoy yourself.

So the guilt was starting to lift.  I chatted, on the phone with Mum and she apologized for passing on the guilt for doing nothing syndrome, apparently it is genetic.  Anyway, I was starting to feel better with all of you setting me straight, and then DH called.

He is in Houston on his way home and he just called to check in.  One of the first things he asked is if I was able to pick his library book up and if I had finished the painting.  ummmmmmmmmm

Haven't really made it to the library much less the hardware store to even purchase the paint!  I have measured the walls etc but haven't really gone in that direction at all.  YIKES!!

Welcome back guilt....you seem to be comfy here.

NO!  When you're on vacation you don't have to go by the book, that's what work is for;-) take the time, enjoy, sounds like you needed some me time;-)

No you aren't wasting it, your taking time for yourself and doing things you enjoy. It's your vacation, it's not like you sit home daily letting responsibilities slide.  And, don't forget, your DH isn't on vacation so he's in "work mode" so his mind set is different.  If he was on vacation he might not of painted either.

Yes. You must pack up the doggies and drive over to your neighboring state for a fun-filled play date with none other than Mr. Rupester.
